Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on August 1, 2025August 1, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SANSANEE was beaten by Gold Spy at Carnarvon last start when resuming off a 7 week freshen. Gold Spy races on Friday in Race 6 in a 56+ and if he was to go well then the writing would be on the wall for Sansanee. PUDDIN N PIE also had a run at Carnarvon on her way up to Port Hedland when she finished second over 1600m behind Sweet Eyes. With this being the only maiden on the program Brett Pope is forced to drop her right back to 1200m which could see her vulnerable if she doesn’t step. OSCAR WINNER hasn’t been seen for 70 days since running second to Warby Ranges. IFFUBLUSH always thereabouts. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – SANSANEE WIN RACE 2 COMMANDO MISS is yet to win past 1300m but her effort two back behind Fellafromdownunder (beating home Uni Queen) this track/distance/grade was really encouraging. She’ll do no work from barrier 1 and following Kentucky Blue is a nice set up. KENTUCKY BLUE drops 3.5kg, leads and should be going close. Been a model of consistency this prep but just been unable to pinch one. UNI QUEEN won well three back and seems to appreciate being drawn wide so she can take off mid-race. MERCIAN HYMN looked like being a nice Cups horse earlier in the season but his form has tapered off. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – COMMANDO MISS WIN RACE 3 ROYALZEL is a Port Hedland only commodity now. Three wins this season all at Port Hedland and his efforts at Marble Bar and Roebourne were both well below his best. Often horses for courses in the NW and considering he’s a 3x winner in 56+ grade it’s hard to tip past him. IMPERIALIZE was sound at Carnarvon and should enjoy a nice run from the barrier. Big improver at his second start on the dirt. MILITARY JANE was solid on the Fibre Sand but a bit below par on the dirt at Carnarvon. HEEZA BEAU led and won four back, hasn’t led unchallenged since. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – ROYALZEL WIN RACE 4 INCANDESCENT LADY has had three runs on dirt. Led and won at Carnarvon, led and won at Roebourne and the only time she was beaten was when she handed up. Makes things simple for Holly Nottle, she’ll be looking to jump and run. STAR POWER was nominated, accepted and scratched on 8 June at Roebourne. Clearly had a set back being another 2 months passed. Respect but risky. SHOOTING KONTIKI and SIMPLY ROSSO have won 5 races between them this season. They’re very trustworthy. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – INCANDESCENT LADY WIN RACE 5 BORDER CONTROL is looming ominously in NW Horse of the Year calculations alongside Zadar Rock. He is 4 from 4 undefeated at Port Hedland and they’ve all been in this 68+ grade. He only rises half a kilo start to start and it’s really hard to tip past him. Think he wins again? OREGON HIKER won well at Carnarvon and then went to the Minilya Sprint which rated through the roof. If Simple Logic and/or Cheeky Charlotte win Friday at Carnarvon it’s a big indicator. ROEY CLAM and ISOLA BAY come across from Broome and must be respected. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BORDER CONTROL WIN RACE 6 ZADAR ROCK is winning with arrogance. His win the Roebourne Cup last Saturday was simply elite – he sat last, under 60kg and then covered them in the space of 200m when Michael Heagney pressed the button. He’s simply proving both a super stayer and a superior dirt horse to his rivals. Roebourne – Port Hedland – Broome – Kalgoorlie? The old Gloryland special. ACERMETRIC turns 11 years old on Friday and yet still looms as the main danger to the stablemate. Going really well. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF can stay and brings alternate form. LUTZ will keep whacking away. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – ZADAR ROCK WIN RACE 7 BIG CITIES won a 56+ at Carnarvon by nearly 4L beating subsequent winner Lacevinsky and then went to the Minilya Sprint. Across the weekend from that particular form reference I’ve tipped Simple Logic (Race 3 Carnarvon Friday), Cheeky Charlotte (Race 6 Carnarvon Friday), nearly tipped Oregon Hiker to beat Border Control in Race 5 at Port Hedland and now tipping Big Cities in the last. Eggs – Basket. SHASFA is another Brett Pope runner heading further North and she showed some versatility to win from the back last start. SMART SHADOW can lead this and that makes her dangerous. KIA ORA TATOU doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – BIG CITIES WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,5,9 1,7 2 1,2,5,8 Market Market
