Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on April 3, 2025April 4, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ZORBRIST is not an easy horse to ride – he’s got a few quirks and does a lot wrong, but ability wise, he’s got his rivals safely covered. First-up he finished fourth behind Swansee, Spank Appeal (races Thursday at Pinjarra) and Hell’s Citi. That’s easily good enough to win the opening maiden of the new season at Kalgoorlie. QUEEN OF CHAOS has been going well and can cross to lead in this line-up. SUGARED UP has been up and down in distance across her Josh Brown career. MANGANUI is a long time maiden who continues to find one or two better. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – ZORBRIST WIN RACE 2 DUBLIN RED won a 1400m maiden and an 1100m C2 at Kalgoorlie last season and has been prepared for his return by Brandon & Lucy Fiore with a Pinjarra 1000m trial behind Simply Thinkin’ beaten 1L and a Bunbury 900m Sand Fibre trial when beating Lexington City. Always queries on fitness levels with locals at the opening meeting so he becomes attractive because he’s had the two trials. NATURAL GEM is part of the travelling Neville Parnham team and after the Rocky claim has only 52kg. ALOTOFBANTER was better last start. CHAD’S ME DAD can lead. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – DUBLIN RED WIN RACE 3 I HAD A DREAM goes on top because he’s fit. This is a thin maiden without any real standouts and purely because the vast majority haven’t had a run he goes on top as the fit horse in the race. BLOWIN’ SMOKE has Kyra Yuill. Interesting because she partnered I Had A Dream at Esperance at his last start? ON JUST TERMS finished 3L off Divine Impact, Catch Carter and Heavy Metal first-up last campaign in a 3 year old 0MWLY. If she ran to that level she would be hard to beat here. BRONZE ROCKET won a recent trial but it was a two horse match-race. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – I HAD A DREAM WIN RACE 4 MUNGO JERRY has been a great galloper since arriving in WA. His last two runs at Esperance have left plenty to be desired but he drops back sharply in grade, he looks to be in with a winnable weight after the Cooper Claim and this is very winnable. KHALIDA didn’t fire a shot in two runs at Esperance. That does happen every now and then – some horses just love Kalgoorlie. So keep safe at her return to the KBRC. WESTERNIZE is always there abouts. PEARLY NUGGET is better than her last two. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – MUNGO JERRY WIN RACE 5 I NEVER DREAMED won a 3 year old maiden at Swan Hill by 4L on debut at $1.35 and then went straight to a BM64 (~C3) before a spell. Resumed at the Valley in a F&M BM70 and raced around in better company than what she meets here. Going to take a gamble that Gary Bowen has her ready to go fresh. AMERICAN THIGHS is quick and so if Rocky can cross them with his claim she’ll be hard to run down. DREAM BROOK is a handy enough mare with a nice map. MARYBEE had a consistent start to the Esperance season. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – I NEVER DREAMED WIN RACE 6 QUEEN’S SACRIFICE caused a major boilover at Ascot two starts back when beating progressive filly Come On Emma at over 200-1. Was only 4L off Blazing Emerald, Beau Talk and Only Eyes For Him in a C3 1600 at her next outing and now finds what looks a really suitable C2 1400 at Kalgoorlie. Again, always happy to side up with fit horses on opening meeting if they’ve got some level of form against their name. ZEBEDEE SPRINGS made a big impression at her WA debut. DANCING CHOOSE got the job done well a fortnight ago at Esperance. JET PLANES is the lightly raced horse in the field. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – QUEEN’S SACRIFICE WIN RACE 7 SCOTTISH LAIRD surprised a few last start when winning well at Esperance last start. He won a C2 1400 at Kalgoorlie in July last year at a similar price and by an extending 1.7L margin so on his day he’s more than capable. Can mix his form, that’s the concern along with the barrier. RULING DAME finished half a length off them first-up last preparation in a Westspeed Platinum at Belmont before embarking on a consistent 11 start prep. HOT PUDDIN’ bounced back to some form last start. KALLAROO always a lock for fourth in the blog. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – SCOTTISH LAIRD WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,4 1,2,4 1,3,4,9 4,8,9 Market Market
