Scott Embry’s Saturday Albany Preview

RACE 1

DAYTONA PETE is the full brother to stable star Red Can Man and ran into Wind And The Lion on debut as a 2 year old before being tipped out for a spell. Recent trial was strong when beating handy maiden Line Of Thought (luckless fresh) and he should take beating. G’DAY BLOKE was the unfortunate victim of the abandoned no-race at the opening meeting at Narrogin but for those who watched the race live or were luck enough to get their hands on the replay he was a really impressive winner. Big danger. PINGERS trialled super for a filly who goes around double figures. CYPRESS MOUNTAIN next best.

Numbers: 5 – 2 – 8 – 6

Suggested Bet – DAYTONA PETE WIN

RACE 2

JELLYBEAN JONES went around 60-1 on debut in a fast run maiden at Northam behind Ripper Farooq, Favourite Songs (fourth at Belmont Wednesday) and Precious God (solid on Thursday at Bunbury). Off to a country maiden, blinkers on and drawn to get every chance. No star but a winnable maiden. OPTIMAL has his first start for Ashleigh Woollett and has shown ability previously, albeit over further. SCENERY is a long time maiden who makes his way to Alan Smith but can sprint well fresh. WRITTEN SIN wasn’t disgraced on debut behind the stablemate Wineaclocksumwhere at Narrogin.

Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 7

Suggested Bet – JELLYBEAN JONES EACHWAY

RACE 3

IMAGE OF PRO was a big improver last start in a 46+ at York behind Ensign Pulver. Don’t think this is any harder and he drops half a kilo. Alex Hearn sticks with him and should be able to take full advantage of his inside draw. Bounces straight on the front and takes running down from there. VERRY TIMELY has winkers added and blinkers removed and should only improve off her fresh run when parking in the breeze at Ascot on Melbourne Cup Day before being swamped late. SALARY MAN is better suited out in trip and stuck on alright at Narrogin. SIR BEAR A LOT comes on quickly second-up.

Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 2

Suggested Bet – IMAGE OF PRO EACHWAY

RACE 4

VONSNIP won at the opening meeting at Narrogin and beat the more than handy stablemate Blue Line. Looks in for another very good prep and she’s carried weight well previously which is a big plus. Think she can win again. PENNIES GALORE comes through the same race and was less than 3L off Vonsnip. Can be ridden more forward here. HIDE THE OREOS was a revelation at Broome on the dirt. Interesting to see if he can brig that form back to the grass. INVINCIBLE POWER peaked on his run late at Narrogin.

Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7

Suggested Bet – VONSNIP WIN

RACE 5

AUDREY GRACE is a hard mare to catch but her recent form is excellent for a C2 at Albany. She beat True Apostle (subsequent 3 year old Saturday winner) in a C1 four starts back and last time out she finished off in a near identical L600 to subsequent winner On Patrol and Saturday type mare Madame Magic. Needs things to go her way but is capable. HEZANGELIC is another really well placed into a C2 at Albany. If Amy Jo Hayes can find the front he’s a big danger. FLICK THE SWITCH won well at Narrogin first-up. WILEY GIRL should be a nice mare for the region.

Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4

Suggested Bet – AUDREY GRACE WIN

RACE 6

SACRED OATH was a great find for Roy Rogers last season. Won back to back races in Albany before heading to town and winning the $100,000 final at Belmont. Forget he went to Broome because his grass form is easily good enough to be winning this and he goes great guns fresh. AVOIDANCE has a wide barrier to contend with but only has 55kg so if he can get him across then he should be measuring up. EL SALTO was only 3L off Wubin Gold in a 66+ at Ascot a fortnight ago. MORETHANNUMBERONE hasn’t raced since August 2023 but his C6/BM85 (effectively m72+) form is excellent for a country sprint.

Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 1

Suggested Bet – SACRED OATH WIN

RACE 7

BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE put the writing on the wall first-up at Northam in a C5 when charging to the line behind Pretty Devine. This is an easier race second-up at her home track and she usually improves sharply first-up to second-up. Hard to hold out. LOOKS has covered some kilometres with Tom Wolfe recently. Belmont – Bunbury – Northam – Geraldton – Bunbury and now Albany. He’s on speed, he’s tough and Alex Hearn rides him well. MANHATTAN STRIP is always highly competitive in these c58+ races. CATCH THESE HANDS grows a leg in Albany.

Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 1

Suggested Bet – BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE WIN
