Chris Nelson’s Saturday Randwick Preview Posted on March 7, 2024March 7, 2024 | Posted by Chris Nelson RACE 1 Outstanding day of racing at Randwick & it all kicks off here with one of the most open Midway’s I’ve seen for some time if not at all. Should the 4th emergency ELETTRICA gain a start she’s got as good a chance as any even allowing for the wide gate. Her pattern is to get back anyway & this track will allow her to run home hard without any obstacles in her way. INVINCIBLE LEGEND was a good winner here two back before nothing went right the latest, can bounce back. MOUNTAIN GUEST is yet to miss a placing second up which includes a win, didn’t have the best of luck first up when not far away. Numbers: 24 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 2 The Golden Slipper is getting closer & we have another couple of top notch lead-ups this afternoon with this one being for the fillies. The Waterhouse/Bott yard have dominated the 2yo scene this season & they send around the favourite TOO DARN LIZZIE. To be honest I’m not sold on her off that win & I’m gutted CASTANYA is scratched as she would have given her a run for her money. I’ll go with ERNO’S CUBE at the better odds however I’m not as sold on the race as I was. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 3 Going to lean to the import CANBERRA LEGEND here however I’m looking for some give in the ground, there is a shower or two possible in the lead-up & this bloke will need them as he’s yet to place in 5 goes on good ground. Very tough run first up sitting wide & still coming on late. Happy to forgive REDSTONE WELL’s disappointing effort last week, just too keen he was very flat in the straight, has a fitness edge on many here. Stablemates MILITARY MISSION & SERPENTINE resume, both in with a chance. Numbers: 10 – 12 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet: CANBERRA LEGEND (need a soft 5 or worse). RACE 4 RED RESISTANCE has obviously had his share of problems as we haven’t seen him since beating all bar Cylinder in the Todman 12 months ago. His only other outings were a debut win & a comprehensive victory over the highly rated King’s Gambit in the Canonbury. He’s had the two lead up trials dominantly winning the latest & should be ready to return a winner. Always had an opinion of FACILE who draws well, there is good speed likely in this race suggesting Tyler Schiller can ease if they go nuts up front? CORNICHE a definite market watch. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet: RED RESITANCE TO WIN (looking for him to remain solid in the market). RACE 5 Now we’re getting serious, apart from maybe Storm Boy & Lady Of Camelot this is arguably the strongest 2yo field this season & I could go in at least 4 different directions! Going to lean to ESPIONAGE who was closing in on his stablemate STRAIGHT CHARGE first up at Rosehill. Today he gets an additional 100m & although drawn poorly that won’t concern as he’ll be sent forward & may well end up one x one? STRAIGHT CHARGE has done nothing wrong & lands the inside gate, he’ll lead again & take plenty of running down. Certainly no knock SWITZERLAND who is more than capable of winning the race, all reports suggest he’s still got plenty of improvement in him with the grand final still 2 weeks away. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet: Box up top 4 selections in exotics. RACE 6 Can’t tip against PRIVATE EYE who has gone to another level of late placing in last year’s Everest & resuming with a cracking second down the Flemington straight giving the super mare Imperatriz a real run for her money. Should he run up to either of those efforts he’ll be giving these plenty to think about. PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE is back to defend her crown having won this race last year in sensational fashion running over the top of Eduardo & Giga Kick late. This is her right trip & she’s only suffered defeat once fresh. REMARQUE is also very good fresh, wouldn’t be overlooking. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet: PRIVATE EYE TO WIN. RACE 7 Great to see THINK ABOUT IT return here having won the Everest & Stradbroke within his past 4 starts. He’s had a couple of lead-up trials where he’s looked good without being extended & his first up record sits at 4 from 4, he’ll be too good for this lot. ESPIONA was terrific in the Lightning first up, second up record is good & looks the obvious exacta runner. LADY LAGUNA next best. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet: THINK ABOUT IT TO WIN. RACE 8 The Group 1 Randwick Guineas sees the Waller/McDonald runner MILITARIZE likely to be sent out favourite. Whilst he’s a huge chance in the race I’m more than happy to stick with CELESTIAL LEGEND who relished the step to 1400m last start coming clear to comprehensively win the Hobartville. He’s going to lap up the mile trip on this bigger track & I’m confident he’ll give the favourite a huge run for his money. TOM KITTEN & ENCAP look the other chances in the race. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet: CELESTIAL LEGEND TO WIN. RACE 9 Very open race. Going to lean to LEKVARTE however she’s going to need plenty to go her way as she’s drawn wide with an off speed pattern which suggests she’s going to give away a decent start. She can find the line though & her effort last start when back 300m off a 2-month break was good running home well sectionally in a race not run at all to suit. Back to the mile, fitter, she’ll be storming late. THALASSOPHILE draws well & will be close enough in the run, better than most going around here. Include the second-up LITTLE MIX who is capable of flashing from the back late. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet: LEKVARTE EACH-WAY. RACE 10 C’EST MAGIQUE the obvious tip on paper as she maps well & has strong Group form lines. However she doesn’t seem to attack the line late in her races suggesting she might be vulnerable to a late closer or two. RAINBIEL fits that category having hit the line well last start, both runs this prep have been in good races & she will once again carry a light weight. TINTOOKIE ended up on the worst part of the track here last week, form this prep is good & certainly not out of this. Numbers: 15 – 3 – 13 – 5 Suggested Bet: RAINBIEL EACH-WAY (small bet) Market Market
