Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on February 6, 2024February 6, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CALL OF DUTY looked the goods at trials on numerous occasions winning at Lark Hill in may 2023 as a 2 year old as well as in September 2023 and January 2024 as a 3 year old. Could not have been any more impressive on debut when powering away from them to win by an extending 2.2L margin over 1208m at Bunbury. Looks like he’ll get ground in time but the extra 100m and forgiving Belmont Park should be right up his alley. Think he can remain undefeated. MADE IN MEXICO broke his maiden like a horse who would be going through his grades this time in. Has options from barrier 2 – can kick through to lead or take a sit on Our Rocky Bay. OUR ROCKY BAY did a mountain of work in the early and middle stages last start. Forgive run. CAMERA ACTION is flying but the draw hurts. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – CALL OF DUTY WIN RACE 2 ANGEL UNDERCOVER is brilliantly placed back into a C1 fillies & mares race. First-up she won a 3 year old Plate zapping them from last over 1000m and then backed it up with a fast finishing second to Sapphire Street over 1100m. Sapphire Street ran third behind Petula and Stormchaser in the WA Breeders Classic on Sunday at Bunbury to frank the form and this filly drops back into a midweek assignment. Should be very hard to hold out. AYUMI is no slouch and she won impressively first-up last campaign in a 3 year old 0MWLY. Recent trial was solid. SCORPION RULER was a big winner on debut when wide throughout and then wasn’t disgraced in two runs subsequently. SIMPLY THINKIN’ dug deep to win at Bunbury at only her second outing. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – ANGEL UNDERCOVER WIN RACE 3 MILLSTEE had a fair bit go wrong first-up behind Made In Mexico, a form race which has already produced impressive subsequent winner Princess In Red as well as minor place getters Just Famous and Deferred. Happy to follow that as the premier form reference in this event and from a better barrier and with a clean jump she can enjoy a much more favourable run in transit. SO NATAYA trialled really well back in February 2023 behind King’s Parade and wasn’t asked for an effort recently at Belmont. Keep safe. DUBAI’S DAUGHTER and THE KING’S AFFAIR both found the line strongly from a long way back behind Simply Thinkin’ at Bunbury. Numbers: 12 – 15 – 10 – 14 Suggested Bet – MILLSTEE EACHWAY RACE 4 BOAB BOY accelerated strongly a fortnight ago to put a margin on the field before being gunned down right on the post by Charming Belle. After the claim of Madi Derrick he drops 1.5kg and takes on a similar level of opposition. Racing consistently well now. ONE PUNCH is only coming out of a maiden handicap at Narrogin and usually they’re woeful form references, however, he carried 58.5kg as a 3 year old debutante and he beat up on the older horses. He’ll need some luck at stages from barrier 1 but he looks to have some upside. BONDI’S FUTURE broke maiden status at Geraldton and the second horse came out and put a clinic on at her next outing (I’m On). MOORDITJ BOY can cross these comfortably. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – BOAB BOY WIN RACE 5 SUPER ROMANI looks a progressive stayer who can continue to make his way through the grades. Won a very weak C1 two starts ago but then seemingly went to another level last start into a C3 when travelling up under a hold and sprinting right away from a pretty handy line-up. He did run fourth in a Listed 3 year old staying event at Belmont behind Upper Limits and Demolish last season so you’d think he’s capable of going back to back to back. Big Col too strong. COMEALILBITCLOSER and KERMAN ROCK both drop back to midweek level after running places behind Manavendra last start. Neither win out of turn but both are going well. AWESOME CHATTER backs up off 7 days and has his first test at a distance. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – SUPER ROMANI WIN RACE 6 ZAZA ROCK caught the eye first-up when resuming at 1500m in a Westspeed Platinum at Ascot. Got a long way back from a wide draw, had 59kg and was doing her best work late and through the line. She’s lightly raced and looks to have come back potentially better than when she went to the paddock in late September. Looks in for a big preparation and this is a nice stepping stone second-up. SNAZZLER is bursting to win a race. Couldn’t go with Super Romani last start but never gave up the chase at any stage in the home straight. CASTILLO DEL LAGO will do his thing – he’ll jump, he’ll run and he’ll look to pinch it on the corner. JUSTAMIDDY sneaks back into a C3. Going better than it reads on paper. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – ZAZA ROCK WIN RACE 7 FOREVER CLASSIC could not have trialled much better. She didn’t wear her race day blinkers in the trial and Laqdar Ramoly never took her out of second gear when cruising past the leaders in the last 150m. Should be able to land a decent spot just behind the leaders and it’s worth remembering she was a powerful first-up winner last campaign off a similarly impressive trial win. HYMNS OF ELADDAIR rises to 59kg with the senior rider going back on but he can ride the speed and showed last preparation he’ll be winning plenty of races in time. BLEECKER STREET trialled the house down at Lark Hill and got right away from them when returning a winner. Barrier is the obvious concern. BANKS AVENUE kept coming behind Swear To God and Snippy Which at Pinjarra last start. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – FOREVER CLASSIC WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4,7,8 1,6,7 1,2,3,4,7 4,5,7 Market Market
