Scott Embry’s Thursday Pinjarra Preview Posted on January 10, 2024January 11, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PRINCE OF SANTOS got home really well at odds on debut, finished 9th but ran all the quickest closing splits and showed second-up that it was no fluke when looming large before being run down by Premium Girl. Hapy to follow that as a form reference and with a set of blinkers on hoping he can go one better at his third career outing. MAGNACHINE went to a 3 year old 0MWLY last start where Sonoftheboss went 4L quicker than average and never gave anything else in the field a hope. She’s progressing nicely. UUKHAI was much more comfortable around the bend last start and could nearly lead them here. BRAZEN EMPRESS won her trial impressively ahead of her return. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – PRINCE OF SANTOS WIN RACE 2 BHULLAR is clearly still a work in progress but there’s something there for Bob McPherson. She was solid in all three runs last preparation and she has shown versatility sitting over the speed when second to Kermit’s Luck and then sitting back when second to Royal Toronado. Very even maiden this. REEL THEMOFF was popular in betting at his return from a spell but never really got into the contest at any stage. He’s better than that and the extra 100m will help. PLAYING AROUND is the full to Kay Cee and has trialled up alright. Pike not riding after piloting him in all three trials could well be a big lead though. IMPENDING FEATURE has shades on and will look for the top. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – BHULLAR EACHWAY RACE 3 ONLY US and TROOPER PHOENIX finished second and third respectively behind Mr Megsey last start in a 1705m maiden at Bunbury. ONLY US was backing up off 24 hours and with a split earlier on straightening could nearly have won that event. These staying maidens can be a raffle but he’ll be our ticket. TROOPER PHOENIX was headed half way up the straight but kept finding under pressure and looks like he’ll appreciate ground. ILGIRO DELMONDO steps up another 200m and was an improver last start with more distance. DEEP THINKER is only second-up at 2000m but he looks a really one paced type who needs ground. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – ONLY US EACHWAY RACE 4 PIRATES ALLEY got caught flat footed on debut and raced like he wanted further. Gets that here stepping out to 1500m and with both My Jimmy and Khutos winning out of that race already it’s an easy decision to follow the proven form reference. PROPHET AND POWER engaged in a war of attrition first-up over 1414m with More Than Enuff as they went toe to toe over the last 400m up the home straight at Bunbury. Was only just out bobbed in the finish and should only improve for the outing. ROYAL LAW has been solid in both runs to date and maps to get a gun run. IFFUBLUSH next best. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 6 – 11 Suggested Bet – PIRATES ALLEY WIN RACE 5 KINGS CALL got the line well behind Playing Rio and Alaskan, ahead of subsequent winner Own The Queen before dropping back in distance last week to 1300m. Was handy enough to suggest that with a set of shades and an extra 200m he’ll be right in the mix. EXTREME LOVE won a barrier trial by over 2L at Lark Hill and then parked in the breeze first-up in a very slowly run race which turned into a sit and sprint. First 600m were run 18.5L slower than average and she couldn’t get a break on them. Step up suits. CRYSTAL ROSE tries really hard and pinches one eventually. CORRECT CHOICE whacked away into fourth last start and Chris Parnham sticks with him. Numbers: 5 – 12 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – KINGS CALL WIN RACE 6 BISECTOR should be a nice 1000m straight track horse. She’s been going really well without winning recently and if she can jump with My Baby Blue Jean and match motors early with Rock This Town she should land into a nice position right over the speed. Even race with plenty of chances and she’s undeniably one of them. ROCK THIS TOWN will need to overcome the ‘wrong’ side of the Pinjarra straight. Tawkin Jibberish became the most recent horse to win from the dreaded barrier #1 and that was only in a small field of 6 gallopers. Brayden Gaerth will need to come out running and look for a spot over the speed. This is tougher than last start. THE LADY IS A VAMP is a 1000m straight winner and a C5 winner. Ticks boxes. MIA GUSTO goes super fresh. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BISECTOR EACHWAY RACE 7 OUR NEMESIS ran second to Shooting Spirit first-up when backed from $7.50 into $3.80. Won effortlessly at his second-up run and then had an interrupted prep when a late scratching in the gates at Ascot before heading into a race at Bunbury 28 days later. Another 46 days later and he’s back again. Likely to be a hit or miss type of run from him. Has raw ability but hasn’t had things go his way recently. BERGAMO broke through first-up running down subsequent plunge winner Torpedoman. She was only getting dinkum in the last 100m and ran right through the line. Looks like her breakout preparation and will be competitive from 1200 to 2200m. NO PEER and DOUBLE DEMERITS are both going well and both knocking on the door, however, they both also have bar plates going on. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – OUR NEMESIS WIN RACE 8 SANTA BRAE really caught the eye first-up when charging to the line in a C3 1409. Immediately out to 1600m and as soon as William Pike was booked on Santa Brae ahead of Grant & Alana Williams’ 3 year old Khutos it became easier and easier to follow him second-up. Always promised to win a few races and make his way through the grades. Could be this time in. Ross Price’s strike rate over the last 6 months is 21.4% which is huge. DASH OF BRANDY, KHUTOS and JAY DEE are all impressive last start winners who all actually map to get the runs they need. Makes for a competitive race and all three of them have legitimate winning claims again. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – SANTA BRAE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 5,9,12 FIELD 2,5,6 2,5,6,7 Market Market
