Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on January 9, 2024January 9, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SNIPPY WHICH won impressively on Sunday at Bunbury. If he starts off 3 days he’s the one to beat, but you’d think that after being run off his legs first-up at 1000m and with the opinion they seem to hold of him its more likely that they scratch on race morning? If he doesn’t start it affords stablemate HYMNS OF ELADDAIR a nice opportunity to return a winner. Yet to prove himself on top of the ground but he trialled well over 950m at Lark Hill and he has a lovely positive race pattern. Durrant yard starting to emerge again after a lean spell. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK looks to have raw talent. Still a bit wayward. CLOSE AT HAND was travelling strongly in the trial but junior rider Chanel Cooper had absolutely nowhere to go in the home straight. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – HYMNS OF ELADDAIR WIN RACE 2 TYCOON HARRY and ART OF CONSENT are both very quick and will look to sit up over the speed. They could cross Mrs Kangaroo and end up fence and breeze, or if Mrs Kangaroo holds up then one of them is likely to be three deep the trip. Belmont 1000 is forgiving so regardless of their settling positions they should be fighting out the finish. TYCOON HARRY is still a work in progress but he looks to have genuine upside. ART OF CONSENT has returned in excellent order and is knocking on the door. EYE OPENER can save all the ground along the fence. MRS KANGAROO is trying really hard. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – TYCOON HARRY WIN RACE 3 DUBAI’S DAUGHTER and DANCIN’ DEVIL paired off in their recent 950m Lark Hill heat and it was hard to ignore the effortless way that DUBAI’S DAUGHTER worked through her gears. The obvious concern with her is that she’s won 950m Lark Hill trials leading into both preparations and is yet to fire a shot on race day. Giving her one more chance from the perfect stalking position in running. CANNY ROCK likely looks to lead them up from barrier 1 and has run second to Esprit Garcon and Miss Skyhigh. Excellent form references for a maiden. DANCIN’ DEVIL was a nice trial for his return to the races. CHOP SUEY trialled well and can be forgiven after going back on debut in a race dominated on speed. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – DUBAI’S DAUGHTER WIN RACE 4 BIGDAYONIT will march along at his own leisure and doubt anything will look to pressure him. He’s every chance of having the roughie of the field Lucy Da Grey to his outside and from there he can look to skip clear on straightening and hold off the chasing brigade. Second behind Esprit Garcon first-up at 1200m and backing up off 7 days. Goes around eachway and should run his usual eachway race. BUDGERIGAR was posted three deep the trip last start and was brave in defeat. Senior rider goes on and while Nero King flopped on Saturday we did see Call Again win at Bunbury on Sunday. SEDUCE ME has her first start for Grant & Alana Williams. Best is good enough but can mix her form. EXCELTRAIN comes on quickly from his first-up run. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – BIGDAYONIT EACHWAY RACE 5 WHO BE WHATEE will clearly be the second elect of the two Pearce Brothers runners but thought he went well last start behind Guarding Heaven and Mystic Jane (since second to Eee Pee Cee on a Saturday) in a C3. Drops back into a C1, likely settles right alongside stablemate and obvious danger Super Romani and he’ll go round somewhere between 3 & 4x his price. SUPER ROMANI was an excellent return to racing over 1400m and put the writing on the wall. Big Col calls on W.Pike and he’s going to be understandably short. No surprise to see him run straight past these. DENZOE will roll along out in front and give cheek as she always does. HEAVENLY LADY an improver. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – WHO BE WHATEE WIN RACE 6 FIRST MISSILE was 2.8L off DENNIX CHOUX when they met last start over 1200m and with Supportive coming out of that race and winning 7 days later it becomes the obvious form reference. They both step to 1400m here and heading across to Belmont Park thinking that FIRST MISSILE is a genuine chance of turning the tables, especially considering he was first-up for 622 days. Not much between them and likely comes down to who gets the favours in running. DENNIS CHOUX is versatile and can be ridden forward and rearward. Big opportunity for ZJP to start to announce himself. DOMINEER is 2 from 42 and 0 from 19 at Belmont Park, but she’s going well. OCEANZARA caught the eye first-up. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – FIRST MISSILE WIN RACE 7 BERNBRAE backs up off 4 days and the quick back-up is proving extremely successful recently. I Love Your Smile – 5 days, Allegiance – 4 days, Red Rebel – 4 days, Guarding Heaven – 2 days. They’re backing up and they’re winning at the minute, not to mention the fact that all four of those examples were backed off the boards. BERNBRAE was good on Saturday and comes back in grade on the quick spin. PLAY WITH DESIRE beat her home comfortably in the Walkaway Cup at Geraldton two starts back. ZADAR ROCK hasn’t been able to muster up and lead recently. Big improver if doing so here. BEATS OF WAR was super last start but hasn’t been seen now for a month and has been scratched in between. Red Flag. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BERNBRAE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,4,5,7 1,3 1,2,9 1,2,3,5,6 Market Market
