Michael Heaton’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on October 31, 2023October 31, 2023 | Posted by Michael Heaton RACE 1 WEERAECHOUX has always shown ability and was a booming first-up winner. Chimed into the race from a long way back to win with authority and the small field should play into his hands. RED TORI was backed off the boards in the same race on debut but got held up at a crucial stage. FIVE DOWN gave cheek in Saturday grade six weeks between runs last start and should be able to control the speed. DIALLING next best. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – WEERAECHOUX WIN RACE 2 IDENTIFIER chased home impressive winner Weeraechoux at the same track/distance last start and that formline could be further enhanced after the first race. She’s only a small mare who needs things to go her way but she raced without luck when fancied in her runs prior to a four-week freshen. SOLDIER’S CAMP caught the eye late at his return and Our Nemesis has since franked the form. Maps to enjoy a lovely run. Debutant WAKEUP LITTLE SUZY has shown ability at the trials and can ride the speed for a long way here. TANGLED TALK was good first up but has a horror draw to overcome. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 11 – 3 Suggested Bet – IDENTIFIER WIN RACE 3 BONNY ROCK has drawn awkwardly but the recent trial win was super and she’s well placed racing in maiden grade for the first time in her life. She ran second at her first three race starts – including two on a Saturday – before getting thrown in the deep end in the Karrakatta Plate and Sires’ Produce. NEW MUSIC hit the line well on debut and with natural improvement can be right in the finish. TRESPASSING joins Sue Olive’s yard and has been gelded. He has terrific formlines for this race but has never been past 1100m and has a tough draw to overcome. CHAMPAGNE STREET has blinkers going on in what looks like the last roll of the dice. Numbers: 8 – 10 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – BONNY ROCK WIN RACE 4 DECORATION looks a standout. Smart maiden win over a subsequent winner two starts ago then stepped straight to Saturday grade when fourth to Cosmic Crusader (subsequent third in a 66+), with Desennea (subsequent C5 winner) back in third. He drops right back in grade to a C1 and Pike sticks. LOVASESSION has been very good at her last three starts and the claim of Luke Campbell helps. INTERVENTION looks better suited dropping back to 1800m after being tested over a staying journey. DARK LOOKS broke through in a weak field last week but backs up off seven days at the same track/distance. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – DECORATION WIN RACE 5 LA DETTE is naturally a watch after her mishap seven months ago but she’s trialled up very nicely and brings handy formlines for a C1. Second to Starring Knight, third to Stormy Tawny (when never getting clear) and she was off the track at her last start when third to Shaka Zulu (winner at 3 from 4) and Pompey (78+ winner and Listed runner-up). Debut winner WICKED VENOM still has a bit to learn but clearly has natural ability and has drawn to get every chance with the cutaway in play. SMOKEY MOUNTAIN can find the front here and bounce back after a tough run last start. FIRST CONTACT looks an honest enough type and gets a weight pull on the first three. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – LA DETTE WIN RACE 6 VALSASSINA appears to be going below her best at the moment but this looks her best chance to break through. She’s raced in higher grade at each of her eight career starts, gets the assistance of Luke Campbell’s claim and maps to enjoy a world-perfect run with the cutaway in play. HIGHEST AWARD looks the main danger. She’s a lightly-raced 4YO who hasn’t run a bad race this preparation and hit the line hard at this track/grade/distance last week. COCKTAIL PARTY also backs up off seven days and steps to 1400m for the first time with the blinkers going on. She can make a race of it if she crosses. FINCHY looks a likely improver second up but might have to get a fair way back. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – VALSASSINA WIN Same Race Multi – Valsassina (Top 2) + Highest Award (Top 3) RACE 7 SPECIAL SORT had to reel off the fastest final 200m sectional of the day to win from a seemingly-impossible position at Geraldton last start. He’s two from two this prep, gets into this nicely after stable apprentice Brayden Gaerth’s claim and should get the right run midfield-with-cover. GREAT DEMON is undefeated after two starts and was a better win than reads on paper at Kalgoorlie last start. He appears to have upside and the horse he beat came out and won by four lengths at its next outing. ON PATROL is well placed having been a Saturday winner and having raced in Saturday grade at his pat six starts. RIG A DIG absolutely bolted in last time out but is only one from 22. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – SPECIAL SORT WIN RACE 8 ROCKIN’ RUPERT drops back into a midweek assignment and also drops 1kg after Keshaw Dhurun’s claim. He won nicely when in this class three starts back and has raced well all preparation. HAMMARMILL comes out of the same race but wasn’t suited by the slow tempo. She’s a super consistent mare for this grade and should be able to enjoy a gun run with a cleaner getaway. Forget DEETEA went around last week – she was held up for the entire straight and Pike sticks second up. BUDGERIGAR only won a modest race at York first up but appears to have some upside. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROCKIN’ RUPERT WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,5 1,3 1,2,4,6 1,2,3,4,7,8 Market Market
