Scott Embry’s Sunday York Preview Posted on September 15, 2023September 15, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MY LOVELY PET ran fourth down the 1000m straight when making good ground late through traffic against the outside fence. Backed it up with a reasonable effort into seventh beaten 4.5L Storm Leader. Visors on and drawn to get a soft run close handy. AGENT DI NOZZO has had two trials this preparation to prepare him for his debut. The first was in a 0-72 trial behind a 66+ type Saturday sprinter in Spirited Session and the second of them was solid behind Fenton’s Dream. TRIGGER FINGER and WRECKED THE RENTAL will be on a jump and run mission. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 10 – 8 Suggested Bet – MY LOVELY PET WIN RACE 2 COUNTERMEASURE ran firth on debut down the 1000m straight behind Go Go Grommet and was immediately tipped out for a spell. The recent 950m Lark Hill trial win was by over 1L and was impressive to the eye. Drawn the inside gate and provided he doesn’t get shuffled back under the 60kg he should run well. YA SHISA won a Lark Hill trial by a similar margin and then wasn’t disgraced behind Native Flower at Northam at his return. DUO MUSO was last seen in the 2 year old Magic Millions. She’s got a level of ability. ORCHILLA is better than a 31 start maiden. These maiden handicaps actually suit her well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – COUNTERMEASURE WIN RACE 3 DIVINE JUDGEMENT should be a nice York maiden handicap horse. Lead them up at 1400m last start behind God’s Garden, was attacked by the even money favourite on straightening and then actually fought back to beat her home late. Right form, right race pattern. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF was eye catching on debut from the back of the field at 100-1 when passing a number of runners late and through the line. Then was beaten 5L in the same race as Divine Judgement. That’s the form line. QUEEN’S SACRIFICE will work across to potentially breeze outside of Divine Judgment. Knocking on the door. ROMANTIC RULER next best. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – DIVINE JUDGEMENT WIN RACE 4 ALBERT is a funny animal. He’s found a lot of ways to get beaten by small margins throughout his career and probably should have won three or four races rather than only one. He was beaten first-up at Junction which looks like seriously questionable form but when you look at the depth of the race some of his C2 efforts at Geraldton last season are good enough to win this. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE finished only 4.4L off Major Max in a 3 year old 62+ last campaign. This is great placement into a c46+. SHY BOY is race fit from a long travelling NW dirt season. PIERRA ART has shades on and finds this easier than last start. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ALBERT WIN RACE 5 MONEY FOR OLD ROPE should be suited to the racing pattern/style of York. Attacks this fresh off 39 days and if he ran to the same level that saw him 2.8L off Forever Classic in a C3 at Belmont he’d be hard to run down in this. SCENIC STRIKE was a nice return to racing. Finished only 2.3L off the undefeated Patron of Kings (races Saturday at Belmont) over what looked an unsuitable 1200m. Not an easy ride for Cassey Martinan but looks to have returned well. BENEATH THE COVERS wasn’t horrible behind Miss Ava. SMOKING BARREL is first-up at 1500m with 63kg but he loves these circuits. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – MONEY FOR OLD ROPE WIN RACE 6 COCKTAIL PARTY is on debut in a 46+ at York as a 3-year-old filly. In the conditions of the race she gets in with only 55.5kg and her 400m jump out was really impressive. From barrier 1 expecting that she’ll jump, muster, find the front and from there she might just take some catching. Intriguing placement by LK Fernie – like it, creative. PRIMATIVE lead and won a C1 100 at Kalgoorlie two starts ago. 57kg after the claim and a jump run type who should suit York. Expect that she’ll park up outside of Cocktail Party. SMILING GIRL finds this easier than many of her recent assignments. ARAMAT really came of age at the end of last preparation and Jon Jachmann’s are flying. Keep safe. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – COCKTAIL PARTY WIN RACE 7 INDIE RULER is a handful but he can gallop. Won his maiden by 3L only two starts ago and then has been back to trials after laying outwards throughout. Few gear changes and he can come across with Watto’s Fury and may even look to burn him off in the middle stages. WATTO’S FURY has found his most suitable race since joining Jade Tangaroa. He was a big improver last start only beaten 2.5L by Rulelee and this is a huge drop in grade for him. PALAGGIO trialled nicely at Belmont Park beating Samaria but didn’t fire a solitary shot first-up in the West behind Eevalina. PRETTY DEVINE an improver. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – INDIE RULER WIN RACE 8 MY FAIR BALENTINE was a big improver last start behind Arnray. Troy Turner rides York and Narrogin particularly well and isn’t afraid to put staying types into the race a fair way from home and use the downhill bend to his benefit. Looks the kind of race where she can park midfield and then sustain a run from a fair way out. RIDING HOOD FAME comes through the same race and since they’ve stepped her out to the staying trips has found a new lease on life. MISS INTENTION has to run out the 1920m but the way she’s going it’s hard to imagine she won’t? PRO IS HERE is on trial at the distance but can give cheek in front. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – MY FAIR BALENTINE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,4 2,6,9 1,2,6,7 2,5,8 Market Market
