Stomped home from last despite being the widest runner turning for home, finishing third. Was also good through the line. The three-year-old features loom as genuine targets for Luke Fernie. WEST COAST WARRIOR Thursday, May 18 @ Pinjarra Remains a maiden after 11 starts. Surely though the Paul Jordan-trained three-year-old isn’t far off notching a much-deserved victory. Bungled the start last week, yet was only one length from winner Quillow in third. The son of So You Think was the only runner to break 35 seconds for the final 600m (34.81). PENNY ON THE QUEEN Thursday, May 18 @ Pinjarra Luckless upon resumption, Penny On The Queen is capable of winning for a second time in her career early this preparation. The first three horses in running, headlined by Falcon Trader, filled the placings. Conversely, Penny On The Queen was cluttered up back in traffic and never saw daylight until it was too late. UPPER LIMITS Saturday, May 20 @ Belmont Third in the Fairetha Stakes last spring behind Bustler and All The King’s Men (and in front of Snowdome), gives you an indication that this Jeremy Easthope-prepared gelding is well above average. That was underlined on the weekend when he closed with intent from a rearward position to run second to Arid first-up. With natural improvement off that effort, Upper Limits must be in your blackbook. COLOSSAL Saturday, May 20 @ Belmont Not many horses made much ground at Belmont last weekend. Colossal was one of the few. Ridden quietly early from a wide draw over 1000m, the Snitzel gelding powered to the line to run a half-length second to smart filly Devine Belief. It was a terrific return from a galloper who has always flashed potential. PANDORA GIRL Saturday, May 20 @ Belmont This three-year-old filly is still eligible for a maiden assignment. What price would she be in a suitable race following her back-to-back placings in graduation company? If the answer is extremely short, go to the front of the queue. You could argue that her recent third was better than the runner-up effort a fortnight earlier. PRINCESS CHUNK Sunday, May 21 @ Kalgoorlie It wouldn’t be a Kalgoorlie season without master trainer Peter Fernie unveiling a progressive horse. He has plenty in his stable at present, with one of them being this filly. Was undone by a wide barrier on Sunday, but never shirked the issue despite finishing out of the money.
