Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on January 31, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SPIRIT MAN lead and faded late at his return to racing before looking far more comfortable with horses to follow when breaking his maiden last start. He ran down Divine Inanna who he meets again here and has to concede an extra 1kg to. Think he can settle midfield with cover from the draw and work his way into the race in the home straight. DIVINE INANNA has sat in the breeze at both runs back this campaign. This is her opportunity to find the fence and kick into the corner. HEAR MY PRAYER was plunged in betting first-up and didn’t get the best of runs in the straight. VILLAGE GIRL beat him home in that same race and has good turn of foot. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SPIRIT MAN WIN RACE 2 DESERT NYMPH finishing second to Laced Up Heels at the end of her first preparation of racing. She returned off the back of a quiet trial when working through heavy traffic down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra when charging home into third. Interesting to see whether she can hold up leader’s back or whether she’s shuffled back to three back the fence. Talented filly with a future. MARMOOGA was the target of big betting support in the last 10 minutes leading into her debut. That race has produced Trespassing for a 3 year old Plate placing and Supersession for an impressive maiden win. Not sure where she gets from a tricky draw. CITY ANGEL likely holds the top with Paul Harvey aboard. Won’t be a maiden long. FRANTIC WAR has been trialling well for his return. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – DESERT NYMPH WIN RACE 3 FRIES WITH THAT broke his maiden when William Pike jumped aboard three starts ago. He then was beaten in the final 50m by Gage Roads (subsequent third place getter in the Listed Breeders Classic) and beat home subsequent winners Queen of Jerusalem and Fear The Wind. Willing to forgive last start’s effort with an apprentice aboard and follow up on the Gage Roads run. JUSTAMIDDY couldn’t quite sprint with them first-up at 1200m but it was a solid return to racing and he maps to enjoy a soft run. REEL THEMOFF was a big winner at Pinjarra when sustaining a powerful run down the centre. O’LARA’S PRINCE hails from a yard that is producing first-up winners for fun. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – FRIES WITH THAT WIN RACE 4 STARCHIENNE only won a Mt Barker maiden but she burst clear and won with a level of authority. In her initial preparation she finished in the money at all four runs in provincial and country maidens and looks to have plenty of upside. With her main rival Ocean Queen likely to settle last she gets a chance to hold a position and stretch her neck. OCEAN QUEEN relished the extra furlong last start and the long Scarpside straight. If they’re making ground she’s the clear danger. Looks like she’ll get out over further in the near future as we head to races like the Ascot 1000 Guineas/Natasha/Oaks. SNIP OF GLORY comes back into a C1 for the first time in the campaign. Going well enough and can settle closer. LOVA SESSION has bombed the start at trials and on debut. Needs to jump. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – STARCHIENNE WIN RACE 5 WAR HYMN finished second behind Hammarmill in this exact grade two starts ago, beating home subsequent winner Extra Secret. She then was hard in the market in a Westspeed Platinum when uncharacteristically missing the kick. All things considered thought it was a good effort and if she can bounce out of the machine and take up the running here she gets a great chance to win. SOFIA’S SYMPHONY was always going to be run off her legs fresh at 1000. Better suited here with an extra furlong. LINDEN LADY finished third behind Admiration Express and Laced Up Heels in the Champion Fillies last campaign. Only query is whether 1200m with 60kg is too sharp for her. AMBERGATE ROSE was a forgive last start and the senior goes on. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – WAR HYMN WIN RACE 6 HOLA MAREA was a super trial behind Honey Dew and didn’t let punters down at his return to racing. He went around a well supported $2.20 favourite in a C3 1200 at Belmont Park and finds the exact same race here a fortnight later. Carries an extra 1.5kg but won pretty soft in the finish and is a horse who can do it tough in his races and still finish off at the end. Looks a nice opportunity for him to go back to back. GUARD THE SAFE gains the services of Paul Harvey. The fresh run behind Sabino and Magic To Exceed was a ripper. PREDETERMINED has his first start in WA. Trialled without blinkers and was travelling strongly in behind heels with nowhere to go. KOLCHINO trialled well. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – HOLA MAREA WIN RACE 7 CANDLELIGHT SUPPER looks ready to win. She has settled rearwards in all four runs this preparation and worked to the line strongly in each and every appearance. Drawn a gate to settle a pair closer in running, winkers on for the first time and out to her pet distance of 1650m (three starts track/distance for 2 wins and a 60+ Graduation minor placing). Likely to go round eachway throughout betting and comes through the Wise Counsel/Canny Jack race. MEGAMI was enormous last start. Her closing sectionals were electric and she looks like she’s turned a corner. She’ll be charging home late and is a big threat. ACERMETRIC can find the front and has put the writing on the wall at his last two. Hard to run down. EEE PEE CEE rises sharply in grade out of a maiden but is progressive. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – CANDLELIGHT SUPPER EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,5,6 1,2,3,6,8,9 1,2,9 3,5,6,9 Market Market
