Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on November 18, 2022November 18, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RUBICK LASS has been well held in both of her 400m jump outs by Paul Harvey. Shaun O’Donnell jumps on race day and she’s drawn a gate to bounce and take up a position. These larger field 2 year old races are typically won by horses who can settle prominently and she fits that profile. Eachway the field kind of race. I’M ON was impressive on debut behind undefeated colt Brave Halo. Race experience should see her improve. PLATINUM SHOT looks a professional type and gets a soft run along the fence. SOARING SOLO was very speedy in her latest jump out breaking 24 seconds. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 10 – 12 Suggested Bet – RUBICK LASS EACHWAY RACE 2 TRULY INSPIRED only won a Class 1 last start but gives the impression he’s the kind of horse who is ready to go through the WA staying ranks. He travelled beautifully under William Pike and importantly showed a level of gate speed that allows him to hold a position in running. They’ll roll along behind Zadar Rock, Devonia and co and he’ll be building through his gears from the 800. COOLTH brings intrigue. Sent across to Perth by Tony & Calvin McEvoy on a long-range Perth Cup mission. Drawn to get a lovely run and ran third at Flemington off a 52-day let-up last start. Respect. ZADAR ROCK never looked like being run down in the Apprentices’ Cup. STRIKE NOW steps up sharply in trip but enjoys a nice run throughout. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – TRULY INSPIRED WIN RACE 3 CASH AWAY is an emerging sprinter who takes on his best credentialled opposition yet in a 72+ first-up, no trial. Drops down to 54.5kg, CJP elects to stick with him ahead of Material Witness and he’s drawn a gate to track up midfield and unleash late. With Acromantula, Olga Louisa and Lexington City likely to lock horns in an early speed battle he just needs to stay within striking distance to remain a big eachway player. FLYING MISSILE is another who can park and ride the speed. She’s a tough mare to run down and a versatile mare who can sit close handy and grab the leaders. ACROMANTULA was no match for Sniparoochy first-up but there’s nothing wrong with that. Will have to burn at both ends to cross Lexington City and hold out Olga Louisa. BEADS is drawn a little sticky but goes well fresh. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – CASH AWAY EACHWAY RACE 4 ALSEPHINA won a 72+ at the end of last campaign and looks well placed by Team Williams into a 66+ 1400 first-up. Not asked for an effort in her trial and looks like landing in a nice position midfield with cover. That’s where William Pike rides the majority of his winners from at Ascot and she’s a mare who knows how to win. 59kg an ask, but also one of the reasons she goes round eachway. Hard to knock her form last preparation. WRITTEN MATTER found the front last start and never looked like being run down. Back to somewhere near his best and that makes him hard to beat again. Great use of the Brandon Louis claim and a deserving favourite. ZEPHYRA was extremely popular in betting first-up. Looked in trouble a long way out and was only fair to the line. Simon Miller immediately reaches for shades. TRADE WAR is starting to find ways to get beaten. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 15 – 8 Suggested Bet – ALSEPHINA EACHWAY RACE 5 BABY PARIS was a late scratching from the Placid Ark last week, a race that she would have gone around favourite in. 7 days later she’s back at the races and she carries only 51.5kg at SWP in a fillies & mares feature. She’s drawn a gate to sit outside of Express Time and from there she’ll be hard to run down with the weight pull. Classy filly who has only been defeated once at the hands of Amelia’s Jewel in the Karrakatta Plate. SNIPAROOCHY trialled like an absolute beast leading into her return to racing. Was backed as if unbeatable and duly saluted in a blistering display of speed and power. She’s clearly the one to beat. REAL GRACE is dangerous with a soft run and a late split. VANE TEMPEST can’t draw a gate. Numbers: 13 – 5 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – BABY PARIS WIN RACE 6 DEVOTED has been a tough watch start after start. He was on the second line of Railway Stakes betting up until the RJ Peters last weekend when unable to secure a Golden Ticket into the Group One feature event. Sat three deep throughout and was brave to still run third. Nothing ran past him from behind him, Searchin’ Roc’s and Let’s Galahvant settled in front of him. Backs up, drawn slightly better and deserving of a win to round out a frustrating campaign. BILLY AIN’T SILLY looks to have found a race where he can bounce on the lead and control the tempo. Hard to run down in those conditions. COMES A TIME is absolutely flying. He has been matching it with the State’s best sprinters and is a gun off the 7-day back-up. Map and 1400m the queries. EM TEE AYE was excellent in the Asian Beau. Numbers: 7 – 14 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – DEVOTED WIN RACE 7 Big Guns BUSTLER, AMELIA’S JEWEL and ALL THE KING’S MEN are drawn alongside each other in barriers 4, 5 & 6. BUSTLER had to dig deep to cut down All The King’s Men in the Fairetha Stakes at 1400m after Paul Harvey rode a tactically perfect race on the runner up. He remains undefeated, he looks to be improving with each and every outing and Stevie Parnham is riding him brilliantly. He is tactically versatile and he has one eye on a Northerly Stakes if he can keep his undefeated tag in tact. AMELIA’S JEWEL suffered her first defeat at the hands of Laced Up Heels in the Burgess Queen. Gets a 2kg pull on the boys and likely follows Bustler’s every move. ALL THE KING’S MEN is racing in impeccable form and Trevor Andrews swaps blinkers for visors. SNOWDOME can roll to the top. Does he run a mile? Numbers: 6 – 15 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – BUSTLER WIN RACE 8 ALASKAN GOD resumed in the Asian Beau Stakes without a trial 6 months after his emphatic victory in the WATC Derby at 2400m. He turned for home last of the 16 runners and let rip with a visually and sectionally sensational turn of foot. He was savaging the line and remarkably clocked a L200 split which was faster than sprinting sensation Miss Conteki on the same day over 1000m. Needed to draw a barrier where he could blend into the three deep train and gets exactly that in barrier 14 (likely 12 after withdrawal of emergencies). He is an excitement machine. TRIX OF THE TRADE ran the second fastest L600 of the Asian Beau behind Alaskan God and should settle in a more prominent position from an ideal draw. Prolific winner and hails from a stable which has been red hot for months. KARLI’S KARMA went down fighting in the WFA Lee Steere Stakes and is far better suited in Handicap conditions. She’s raw and she’s talented. IRONCLAD has been attacking the line and maps a treat. Numbers: 7 – 16 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet – ALASKAN GOD WIN Same Race Multi – Alaskan God (Top 4) + Trix Of The Trade (Top 4) RACE 9 ABOVE THE PEG trialled well leading into this campaign. Ran well first-up at 1200m when bursting through before being gunned down by Featherweight. Travelled into it nicely second-up but had one to his outside that wasn’t going to take him into the race and then attacked the line through traffic late. Looks to land in a lovely position here, racing like a mile won’t worry him and goes around eachway. Gets his chance. MR DELEGATOR and BIG SCREEN will control the tempo between themselves. Both hard to run down if they can settle midrace. ACTING GOD looks just about ready and drops 6kg down to the minimum. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 4 – 12 Suggested Bet – ABOVE THE PEG EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 4,6,7,9,11,14 3,6,15 7,9,10,13,16 3,4,9 Market Market
