Scott Embry’s Sunday Newman Preview Posted on August 19, 2022August 19, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BART’S BULLET should be very hard to beat in the opening event. Winner on Broome Sprint Day in a 64+ 1600 by over a length beating Nevarda and Koranis (who both ran well in the Broome Cup) and then backed up off 4 days into a 58+ 1600 when caught wide and working throughout and fading back into fourth. Drop in grade, drop in distance and the lead very much up for grabs. Hard to run down from there. TRUE MOON is quite a one paced type but Austin Galati should be able to hold a spot. FEMME PUISSANTE is honest and consistent but doesn’t win out of turn. AL MAHALO ran well at Derby but then struggled at Broome. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – BART’S BULLET WIN RACE 2 GRATED COCONUT deserves to break through and win one. Third at Roebourne, second at Broome on Sprint Day and then second again at Broome 4 days later on Cup Day. Drops into a very weak 48+ and while he has 62kg on his back he should position up right behind So Birikkino and he did beat that galloper home on Sprint day. SO BIRIKKINO has been a little hit and miss since arriving in the NW. Won’t get a better chance than this to lead and win. WHOS YOUR MAMA was backed as if unbeatable at Roebourne but was caught three deep throughout with 60kg. Think 1200m is right on her limit. FOO TROUBELE ran a much better race last start. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – GRATED COCONUT WIN RACE 3 CONTENTO BOY broke his maiden in a C1 1300 beating Chilli Bean and WArpipes before finishing fourth behind stablemate Marzipan Lad, Grated Coconut and Chilli Bean on Cup Day. This is an easier race and after the claim he gets in with a winnable weight. BILLY JACK has been thereabouts at Roebourne. This is winnable for him. KALAKAUA has turned a corner. His wins at Roebourne and Derby were excellent. COPPING POINTS stretches to 1400m and is only going fairly. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – CONTENTO BOY WIN RACE 4 PIT TO WIN looks hard to beat in the Newman Sprint. Won a 58+ 1300 first-up, a 70+ 1300 second-up and then has had absoluetely no luck at all in his last three. Comes out of the Broome Sprint when wide throughout finishing fourth behind Dance Cockey, Powerful and Elafella and meets Desert Thorn on the same weights (both rise 5kg). Nice race for him. CAN’TCATCHTHIS will bounce straight to the lead and takes running down. DESERT THORN will sit out the back and sustain his usual run. MOET DE VEGA next best. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – PIT TO WIN TO WIN RACE 5 CALLING CARD has only won a C1 and a 56+ at Roebourne and probably hasn’t beaten much but it’s more about the way he’s racing and the way he’s been winning. Gritty type who can do it tough at both ends and Austin Galati looks to have chosen him over Dynamite Alf. DYNAMITE ALF won back to back races at Broome and then had to do it far too tough in the early and middle stages on Cup Day and faded back through the field to be beaten a margin. Drops into a 1550, is race fit, draws a better gate and drops 2kg. Can bounce back. JOHNNY REB was plunged on Cup Day. Money missed but respect that it came. WELD is a wallet burner. Almost out of chances. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – CALLING CARD WIN RACE 6 BUTTERLEA LAD won the Kimberley Cup and he’ll have plenty of admirers here. There is no real speed in this race and so he should roll across and gets things all his own way. Comes out of a Broome Cup that had too much speed into a Newman Cup with no speed. STEVIE’S WONDER finished third in the Broome Cup behind Ombudsman and Ulusaba and has been getting better with each and every run this preparation. No rider named at the time of writing so he may not even start – but if he does he’s nearly the horse to beat. NEVARDA is always a chance in these types of Cup races. KORANIS is going well. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – BUTTERLEA LAD WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3,4,5 1,2,4 1,2,3,7 1,2,3 Market Market
