Scott Embry’s Friday Broome Preview Posted on July 21, 2022July 21, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LINDRAM WALTER looks poised to make it two from two in Broome since arriving in the NW. First-up maiden winner by over 3L and beat home main rival Needs Time by 5.5L. Will look to kick through and hold up from the inside gate and provided he can do so he looks very hard to run down. NEEDS TIME improved sharply with the dirt experience and will no doubt close that first encounter margin on the favourite. MANY MANSIONS should get a nice run behind them. MUSIC MACHINE an improver at odds. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – LINDRAM WALTER WIN RACE 2 FREQUENT FRIAR is screaming out for further than 1800m but he is still capable of winning this. Last start in a 58+ he finished third behind Butterlea Lad and Ombudsman. He now drops from a 58+ back into a C2 and with the jury out on just whether or not the likely favourite Mountain Ash is really enjoying the dirt style of racing he gets his chance to win one. HUSSTARR has 59kg and this is probably about as far as she wants to stretch but she’s been racing well. TRISUEM has shades attached and is one who will definitely see out the trip. MOUNTAIN ASH didn’t handle it first-up, went well second-up and didn’t handle it third-up. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – FREQUENT FRIAR WIN RACE 3 CITY REGAL was coming off two soft 1000m wins in lower grade before being thrown in the deep end into a 70+ 1200m event where he was able to measure up finishing a strong second to Dance Cockey (seasoned, hardened 70+ type). 70+ grade back to 58+ grade (where he won both of his races to start his preparation) and 1200m back to 1100m. Plenty to like about the placing. GORGEOUS GUS is going through the grades nicely and looks a genuine danger and possibly even jumps favourite ahead of him. GUARDED gets in with no weight and while this is tougher than recent assignments he’s going well. MISS ELLMYA is going nowhere near as well as 12 months ago. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – CITY REGAL WIN RACE 4 DESERT THORN is always going to be a fairly hard horse to catch – he’s a unique type who tends to get back and run on at Broome. 90% of races are won by horses over the top of the speed but he’s in the 10% category who can settle midfield or worse and sustain a big run. Seems to go lengths better for Col Haddon than anyone else but it’s hard to ignore the weight relief he gets against many regular rivals with the Luke Campbell claim. DANCE COCKEY is always a chance in these sprinting races. Just needs a bit of luck from a tricky draw. SPEEDING COMET carries the weight and is as tough as they come. STATE ATTORNEY brings intrigue. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – DESERT THORN EACHWAY RACE 5 PRO IS HERE ended up a long way back at his Broome debut and thought he stuck on quite well. When you consider that he’s lead and won races on the grass it’s reasonable to expect (hope) that he can jump cleanly with a senior rider on and settle lengths closer in this. If he can jump cleanly and kick through into a position he’s a great eachway chance in a C2. ORNAMENTAL BELLE has run two big races in the region and Anthony Barton’s team small is going well. SO BIRIKKINO is stretched at 1200 but he’ll burn them off early. KENTUCKY DREAM could end up a fair way off them back to 1200m. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – PRO IS HERE EACHWAY RACE 6 IN THE BAG was never a winning chance in the Derby Cup about 100m after the start when he was crossed by Ulusaba. From there he held leader’s back for the first 1200m or so before you could see he was uncomfortable. Jess Gray didn’t knock him around and back to Broome he can bounce back to his best. Expect him to hold up and expect him to run a far better race 6 days later. SHEIKH IT put the writing on the wall at his Broome debut and then was a strong winner last start. He’s a genuine Cups Contender now. DIAMOND TONIQUE is racing like he’s looking for this trip and beyond and the shades go on. STEVIE’S WONDER was just getting busy late last start. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – IN THE BAG EACHWAY RACE 7 STOCKTAKA is having his first start on the dirt and it’s always a risky proposition getting involved in these types, however, if you’re going to do it you’re looking for a horse who can race up on the speed and stay out of trouble (and the kickback). STOCKTAKA is one who should be able to roll forward from a wide gate and work his way across the face of the field into a commanding position. Rock hard fit and love the use of the 3kg claim. BART’S BULLET will no doubt find the fence ahead of him early and from there he’s always a winning chance. SURF POINT will get back and be doing his best late. LUKE’S CHOICE has shades on and can improve. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – STOCKTAKA EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,4,6 1,5 1,2,5,7 2,3,4,6,7 Market Market
