Deane Lester’s Caufield Best Bets Posted on April 22, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 2 NO.1 SIRILEO MISS Talented mare SIRILEO MISS made a return to form last start and looks the one to beat in the Super VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m). The four year old endured a tough run when finishing unplaced over 1400 metres at Flemington March 5 but quickly turned that around with a brave dead heat win in the Bendigo Gold Bracelet (1400m) at Bendigo on April 2. This looks a very suitable race for her and, despite a wide barrier draw, should race near the lead and assert her class over the final stages. The Symon Wilde stable is in good form and SIRILEO MISS appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 7 NO.12 SWATS THAT Whilst SWATS THAT hasn’t managed a win since the 2020 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, the four year old has been competing at a higher level than this race and gets her chance to bounce back to winning form when she tackles the Super VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m). The daughter of Shamus Award has been racing at group one level for much of the past eighteen months which includes a last start 5th behind ROCH’N’HORSE in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12. She is the highest rated horse in this race yet carries the lightest weight so the conditions of this race are certainly in her favour. She has trialled strongly at Flemington since her last run and looks another good ride for champion jockey Damien Oliver; best bet of the day. RACE 8 NO.1 SO SI BON Evergreen performer SO SI BON has always performed well at this meeting and is striving for a third consecutive win in the Super VOBIS Gold Mile (1600m). The eight year old resumed from a spell with a solid 4th behind FLASH AAH in the Benchmark 100 Handicap (1400m). He will be fitter for that run and the Hayes brothers appear to have targeted this race for SO SI BON to show his best. He seems very well graded in this race, looks drawn for a good run and Mark Zahra, who is a four time winner aboard SO SI BON, is reunited with the son of So You Think. He races well at Caulfield and represents terrific each way value. Market Market
