Scott Embry’s Thursday Pinjarra Preview

RACE 1

QUEENSHIP has her second preparation for the Adam Durrant stable and should be ready to show her best. Finished only 2.5L off All Day Session, Sketta and Brooklyn Pier in a 3 year old Saturday back in 2021 and the recent trial win was strong. Expecting her to win a few races for the yard. SMOKER is no slouch and drawn the perfect gate alongside Queenship they should take care of the speed between them against the outside fence. Loved the trial behind Queenship and there won’t be much between them. NITRO FRED ran well at his return and Bayzel ran well again on Sunday. LUCKY LANDING has been down the straight previously when second to Factory Made.

RACE 2

OCEAN AURA had blinkers on for the first time last Wednesday at Belmont Park and met with a lot of support in betting. Thought the effort was a pass mark and now getting out to 1800m and drawn an ideal gate found a winnable race. Not much between the top three or four and should get a great run. LAUTRE was a bit stiff last start when searching for runs along the fence. Held up at a crucial stage and should have finished in the money. RIG A DIG was a great effort on pace and whacking away. Like the booking of Watson. DIVINE NOIR looks like he will stay all day.

RACE 3

THE BIG ONE hails from a powerful first-up yard in SJ Miller. If they’re good enough they usually go close on debut from this yard. In the last 750 days SJ Miller has produced 25 debutantes for 8 winners. 32% strike rate, 69% POT. Just follow them on debut when they show ability at trials. Looks to have talent. RARE ENCOUNTER was scratched on Sunday to save for this. Got through her gears nicely at Lark Hill in a recent trial and was well thought of on debut. CYWER ran well on debut and Mama Tembu looks a handy type in the making. VITAL GEM will need luck but follow to his next outing.

RACE 4

PENNYS AFIELD finished third on debut behind Sichern and Blue Skates (beating home two time subsequent winner Rulelee) and then ran into an above average colt last start at Belmont Park in Rokanori. He goes around favourite in a 3 year old 0MWLY at Ascot on Wednesday and if he goes well it will only further enhance her chances here. Can let down powerfully. REEL SAFE ran some cheeky races when last in work. Barrier hurts but think this filly can measure up this campaign. SILVER FLYER was a nice trial winner and returns from a break. FORLANE was well thought of at his return and didn’t really do anything right.

RACE 5

STEELS THE DEEL finished third behind Mama Tembu and Cywer first-up without a trial at Belmont. Watching Cywer to see how he goes in Race 3 and if he can finish in the money again that will look like great form for Steels The Deel. Wide gate hurts but think he’s a get back run on type anyway. WINNING ACES returns to the races with the benefit of a couple of trials. Versatile type who can lead or sit back from what we’ve seen to date. JUSTAMIDDY promised to win one all preparation when last in work. Drawn the right gate and looks to have come back well. HEAVENLY SKY finished second in the trial behind Winning Aces and will have just as many followers.

RACE 6

GAMBLER’S GOLD has been going well all campaign for the in form Jason Miller and Clint Johnston-Porter combination. Was relentless money for this horse in a 3 year old 0MWLY last Wednesday at Belmont when finishing a luckless third behind No Dice and Cobbanco. Drops back into a C1, steps to 1300m, and provided CJP can give him a half decent run in transit from a sticky alley he should have too much fire power for this opposition. OCEANIC RIDER is the X-Factor. Returns without a trial and the three runs as a 2 year old filly were all excellent. Watch the market. STAR STORM is no star but should pick up a C1 this time in. NIIGATA is going better than her numerical form suggests.

RACE 7

ONE FOR THE ROAD has put two wins together in a line. Returned with a C1 win at Pinjarra when working through the line strongly and backed it up with a 58+ win at Geraldton. Steps to 1600, gets to a C3 and is drawn to get a lovely run midfield with cover. Going through the grades nicely and is attacking the line. COMEALILBITCLOSER has been stuck as a C1 galloper for a long while now. All recent runs have been excellent but he tends to find one or two better than him every single time. BELL LAP and MELARAB are both handy on speed types but both are drawn awkwardly and both being ridden by young apprentices.

RACE 8

BORN TO RULE was chasing throughout first-up behind Express Time. Had to do a fair bit of work to get across from a wide gate and never really looked comfortable in running. Was under the whip at the corner and then actually held her own late in the race. Second-up, down the 1000m straight and on a day which could be a big CJP/Durrant/Miller program she looks another massive chance. AGENT KENSINGTON was stiff when she last went down the straight. Didn’t see much clear air until it was all over behind stablemate Bedouin Belle. NOBELIUM is flying. His runs this preparation (except when he went to the wrong race in the Batavia) have all been massive. Ready to win. SMART FOX hasn’t been seen for a long while but is a handy C3 type sprinter.
