Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on March 11, 2021March 12, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SECRET LAIR ran well on debut when chasing a hot speed from midfield and finishing off nicely into third placing. Kept fresh for this and drawn alongside one of his main dangers in Hear Me Sing. This isn’t an overly strong 2 year old Saturday race and with even luck he can give it a shake. HEAR ME SING isn’t having things go his way. Did it tough last start and was equally as impressive as Secret Lair first-up behind Spin The Knife. DIAMOND BLUE and HE’S GOLD both come from a Pinjarra 1000m race where there wasn’t much between them. They can both take up prominent positions in running. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SECRET LAIR WIN RACE 2 OUR BOY DYLAN comes from one of the strongest C3 races of the season. Amasenus, Divine Beast, She’s Enchanted and Holy Ghost all look like Saturday types and Our Boy Dylan did the bullock work in the race with 60kg and fought on well. Comes back to his own age group where two starts ago he finished within a length of Charleton Eddie and Vadette De Star. Maps to get a lovely run over the speed and is more than capable of upsetting the Casey pair. SASSY TRADER was a bit hit and miss from the barriers when last in work yet still ran some brilliant races in defeat. Pads on a red flag but rates very well for this. SAVAGE ONE is a talented animal drawn woefully. BIG SCREEN resumes off an impressive trial. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – OUR BOY DYLAN EACHWAY RACE 3 WILD FUSION is on the 7 day back up from a 66+ on Bunbury Cup day where he sat in the breeze and was only really beaten off in the last 200m. Sat outside previous 72+ winner Living The Dream and had him covered in the run to the line. Better suited with cover, better suited back in grade and finds a very winnable 58+. Looks well placed by Earl O’Loughlin. BRUCE ALMIGHTY is on the 6 day back-up from Sunday. Can lead or box seat and is back in form. Hard to knock Brucey. FIRESALE won’t get any favours from the draw and with the rail at 5m and an Easterly blowing does look up against it. Horse is flying but race doesn’t look like panning out for him. DOUBLE SPICE went around favourite last start from an impossible draw. Should land in an ideal position from the gate. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – WILD FUSION EACHWAY RACE 4 SECRET PLAN sat three deep the trip last week at Bunbury in a 3 year old handicap. That form should prove as strong, if not stronger, than a 60+ Graduation and being a 3 year old taking on the older horses he gets weight relief. Will need a gun ride with wind/rail conditions against his normal pattern of racing but he looks ultra-progressive and can buck the trend. SIR MAMBO won’t find many better opportunities to win in this grade. Ideally drawn, great use of the claim and coming off a massive effort when tramping deep throughout behind Lipstick Flickers, a form race which has really held up. GRAND DESIGN won well last start after being crunched in betting. UNIVERSAL PLEASURE is flying but faces her toughest test to date. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – SECRET PLAN WIN RACE 5 RELIABLE STAR is having her third run in a fortnight and is starting to prove herself a more than handy staying filly. The entire field are on trial at 2200m and she brings the alternate form having beaten the older horses over 2000 last weekend at Bunbury. Was given a peach by Carbery 7 days ago and extended nicely running through the line. If the fancies fail to stick the trip, she’ll be coming at them hard late. SOLAIA was tackled by Testing Love at the 800 in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and did a super job to pop off, sit in the breeze and only go down fighting in the final 150. Lost no admirers and at the set weights and penalties conditions is the one to beat. BRAVE ANGEL got the run of the race last start and things panned out perfectly. She is an improving type. SUNSET CRUISE may not have the same class as the rest but looks like she will stay all day. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – RELIABLE STAR WIN RACE 6 SOWAR has been around the mark all preparation. Winner in this grade 3 starts ago, complete forgive run two starts ago in a slowly run staying race where he was impossible from the draw and then chased hard at his most recent behind Melarab. Can position up from the gate and looks an eachway chance in an open race. MELARAB has lead twice in his career for two victories. Logic suggests that’s the way they’ll look to ride him from now on. Progressive middle distance type. MISS MARIETTA has come back in super form and is capable of continuing her way through the grades. BERET is going super but drawn awkwardly for her first attempt at a mile. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – SOWAR EACHWAY RACE 7 WESTERN EMPIRE holds a mortgage over this race in the market and is currently $2 All-In Favourite for the WATC Derby. Demolished them in the Lex Piper when letting down brilliantly off the back of a solid tempo. Looks like an extra furlong will be right up his alley and with a similar amount (possibly more) speed expected over the 1800 he should again sit midfield and sail past them. HOLY ENCHANTMENT has been kept away from the 3 year old Autumn features until now. Big effort first-up over an unsuitable 1200m, hard luck story last start against the older horses when plunged in betting. Looks like he is timing his run perfectly for a Derby assault. FLASH DUCATI was doing his best work late in the Lex Piper. EM TEE AYE didn’t seem to be suited in behind horses. Improver. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – WESTERN EMPIRE WIN RACE 8 RIVER BEAU was enormous first-up when clocking a 32.85 final 600m split. His trial suggested he was in for a big preparation and the first-up run confirmed it. If he can leave cleanly from the better draw, he should position up within striking distance of Kramden and Mood Swings. From there if he can reproduce his first-up run he’ll be very hard to hold out late. KRAMDEN gets massive weight on River Beau and Mood Swings with the engagement of Kristy Bennett. Beware the leader with 51.5kg. MOOD SWINGS has hit a purple patch of form and is impossible to knock. BADGE OF COURAGE caught the eye first-up and second-up. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – RIVER BEAU WIN RACE 9 LORENTINIO finds another race where he can roll to the top and control the tempo. Very hard horse to run down when he gets things his own way in the middle stages and is perfectly suited to kicking into the Ascot corner. NOT TO BE MIST has blinkers on for the first time and has been running home powerfully in unsuitable races so far this preparation. COCKYJOY likely takes the box seat run on the back of Lorentinio and won in career best fashion last weekend. PHONEME simply doesn’t look like he gets past 1600m. Dropping back in trip a big positive. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 11 – 8 Suggested Bet – LORENTINIO EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,3,4,7,8 1 2,4,5,6,10 1,2,7,8,11 Market Market
