Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 2, 2020September 2, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 MISS MARANTA has been simply getting too far back for her own good. This smaller field (in theory) should help her and expecting Jordy Turner to put her into the race at the 600m. Should be ready. STORM THEIF is no star but he backs up off 5 days from last Saturday and steps back to 2200m. He should be able to settle right over the top of the speed and these maiden stayers go round every meeting and he’ll win one. XAN BIO was a strong run last start and reproducing that effort puts her right in the finish. BLACK WING finished off well last time out. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – MISS MARANTA WIN Race 2 ULTIMATE FIX is speedy and the 400m jump outs have been impressive. If there is a yard who can produce them off the jump outs alone it’s Dion Luciani. Could well jump straight to the front and from there takes running down. SPECIAL FEATURE goes round with absolutely no weight after the claim for Hannah Fitzgerald. She can’t claim the entire 4kg but she sits on very well and from the draw she’ll have this debutante in a prominent position. HELL’S BELLE was nominated for far tougher races until finally falling into this maiden. MODERN TIMES is first start for a new yard and was repeatedly backed in his Lindsey Smith days. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – ULTIMATE FIX WIN Race 3 RAG ‘N’ BONEMAN was sectionally highly impressive first-up. Was first-up no trial and 1200m was always going to be on the short side. The three horses in front of him (How’s The Serenity, Wardian and Zac Luvs to Fly) all look to have futures and that should prove a strong form reference. PERFECT HARMONY backs up off 7 days after resuming. Finds the top again and takes running down. DELLARAAJ will be better suited with another furlong to settle into her rhythm. NO STOPPING ME NOW wasn’t disgraced on debut. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – RAG ‘N’ BONEMAN WIN Race 4 NATURAL AIRCHIEF was coming out of a 400m jump out into the debut run when a fast finishing second to Zadok. That should prove a nice platform for this 1300m assignment and based on the speed shown in the 400m jump outs you would think that Jade McNaught may be able to offset the wide gate and take up a prominent position. Wide open race and genuine winning chance. TABELLA has some real X-Factor to her racing. The only concern is the inside gate, prefer her (like many Arthur Mortimer horses) drawn wide. BABURIZZA finished off well fresh and now has the shades on. MAN OF THE HOUR was alright at trials. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – NATURAL AIRCHEIF WIN Race 5 TYCOON STORM is double nominated for Wednesday at Belmont and Thursday at Northam. So this could well be a scratched selection come 8.01am Wednesday but if she does go to this race it looks hers for the taking. Run off her legs first-up and this is a pretty thin race. BOBCAT JOHNNIE the on top selection if she is scratched and looks a great race for him to finally jump and breeze. CONVICTED MAN was last man standing in a strongly run C1 last time out. Looks progressive. ME ‘N’ TAZ going well but 1400m probably on his limit. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – TYCOON STORM WIN Race 6 SMART PRINCESS looks the only genuine 1000m horse in the race. This is an extremely thin line-up and the booking of Chris Parnham a huge win. Wasn’t disgraced first-up last preparation behind Amelia’s Contraire and then won her maiden over subsequent winner Saturday Sun. Should nearly lead them and looks very hard to beat. DANCE COCKEY stays at 1000m but was a shade disappointing first-up. Showed promise in his early days. ARTIC BLUE hasn’t won for a long time but was competitive last prep. HILLSIDE RULER is a new comer to Fenella Martin’s yard and showed ability in Geraldton. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – SMART PRINCESS WIN Race 7 BEANIE is drawn to do no work in the run. He is the kind of horse who needs a suck run three back the fence and then get out late. Drawn to get the right run. In a race where you could make a case for the majority of the field he’ll do on an eachway basis. AXEL R EIGHT was enormous first-up at a staying trip and then beaten out of sight second-up. Darren McAuliffe’s horses rarely put in two bad ones. TREAT YO SELF looked to pull herself into the ground last time out. May be better suited chasing the speed. MAGIC LAS VEGAS a mad one. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – BEANIE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,8,9,13 1,2,3,5 4 1,2,3,4,6,7 Market Market
