Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 4, 2019April 8, 2019 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 MAGIC EMPIRE trialed well enough without being tested prior to his first-up assignment. Was never in the race and then taken inwards across heels late in the piece when behind a wall of traffic. Maps midfield here in a weak maiden and can bounce back. DIVINE QUEST has been well thought of all preparation and has been racing well. Blinkers go on after a fairly plain performance last start after enjoying a nice run in transit. Will need luck from the draw but not a deep race. FRIAR’S MOON ran some solid races in winter. First-up, no trial and drawn soft to sit midfield. ARTIE’S JEWELS caught the eye late first-up and can improve. Numbers: 5 – 13 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – MAGIC EMPIRE WIN Race 2 SETTLERS CREEK is only second-up into his preparation and backs up off 7 days which is never quite as attractive as when they back-up mid prep but his run last weekend in a stronger 76+ than this and over 1200 was good enough. If they can make ground he can give a cheeky sight at odds. DUTCH SPY has hit form and the Dam Ready/River Dance race is hot. Query is the trip. SPECIAL DELIVERY is a 7 day king and back to 1400m suits him as well. ATLANTA BLUE is not racing at his peak but has been lumping big weights. A soft lead and he is a sharp improver. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SETTLERS CREEK EACHWAY Race 3 DEACALDA was a remarkable drifter first-up off the back of a solid trial and won like a filly who will be winning plenty more this preparation. Suggest that the 1200m is even more in her favour than the 1000m was and if McGruddy can navigate a tough draw she’s clearly the one to beat again. CATHERINE WHEEL brings an X-Factor to the race. Looks likely to jump and sit right over the speed. Impressive win on debut down the straight. BEDOUINE BELLE is better than what she showed last start. OVER THERE won well midweek with the rail out when conditions suited. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – DEACALDA WIN Race 4 UPWARD OTHERS has been in form for the last five or six runs without winning and finally broke through last start. Hec Mclaren’s team of two are both flying and now that he has won one he can go on with it quickly. HIGH ENERGY lumped a big weight last start in a muddling run midweek stayers race. His previous form with without weight on his back was excellent. SEND MY LOVE was the target of good support last start and was jumping out of the ground. Finally out to a trip she’ll be winning soon. MIDNIGHT BANQUET can roll forwards and be there a long way. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – UPWARD OTHERS WIN Race 5 FABERGINO rolls straight to the front at her first crack at 1200m. She has a cruising speed that will burn off most opposition. This is a very strong 5 horse field and if there has been any issues in her 6 weeks between runs then the other 4 all have the ability to reel her in, however, if she is going to reach the heights many expect she will then she needs to lead and win this. LADY COSMOLOGY likely takes the camp leaders back and tries to tow ball the whole way. CELEBRITY DREAM is always well in under set weights and penalty conditions. ELECTRIC LIGHT needed the run first-up and will likely settle last of the five. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – FABERGINO WIN Race 6 ROCKAFELLA was scratched from Wednesday to be saved for this. Down in the weights, Noske on and drawn soft. If he can settle within 2 or 3 lengths of the likely leader Free Trade then he can prove hard to hold out. FREE TRADE has only had the one start and bolted in a fairly weak maiden. Normally C1s in Graduations are a no-go-zone but this gelding looks well and truly above average. If the 3m rail is again suiting those on-speed then he will be very hard to run down. KING’S AUTHORITY showed much more last start than he had done at his two previous WA runs. Sits box seat and goes close. COMPARATIVE won well last start and can win first start for new connections. Numbers: 10 – 11 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ROCKAFELLA EACHWAY Race 7 TELLLEMMMMM WE’RE COMIN will be all the rage. Should have won his last two starts. Found traffic at crucial stages in the Bunbury Stakes and then bombed the start in the Grandstand Cup. Pike goes on and he looks the one to beat. MIZLECKI is in a similar vein of luckless form. She arguably could have won every start this preparation after drawing continually poorly. VARIATION improved sharply first-up to second-up and should be improving fitness and confidence wise. ABDICATOR proved last start he is up to the grade. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – TELLEM WE’RE COMIN WIN Race 8 AMELIA’S ON FIRE may have been afforded a blessing in disguise with all riders abandoning her. Jason Brown is one of the best front running hoops in the State and if they allow him to find the front and dictate terms to them she’ll take catching. JERICHO MISSILE is the obvious and will be extremely hard to beat. Draws a gate to sit forwards of midfield with cover and he was brave in the Perth Stakes which was arguably a trial for prizemoney. RIO DEL MAR won the Gimcrack impressively and draws soft. NICCOVI was dealt a bitter blow at barrier draw. She’s going to need a serious ride or some serious luck. Numbers: 14 – 1 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – AMELIA’S ON FIRE EACHWAY Race 9 TONKATUFF has come back really well this preparation. First-up was big in a quality form race containing Seeker and Dam Ready over a shorter than suitable trip. Last two starts since has drawn poorly and finished off extremely well. Backs up off 7, drops in grade and draws a gate. CAROCAPO leads with ease but jury will be out as to whether he’ll get the trip. TURBO POWER can box seat and that is exactly the sort of run he needs to win. SUPREME FORCE was finishing brilliantly fresh and should only improve at 1400m. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – TONKATUFF EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,10,11 3,5,8 1,9,14 1,3,9,10,12 Market Market
