Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 5, 2018 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 WISE MONKEY is typically a midfield with cover, wind up late type who didn’t look suited to racing down the 1000m straight first-up. Should improve off that, especially around a bend. TEXAS MOON promised to win a race all last preparation and fell short on a number on occasions. Likely to be short with Pike aboard but first-up, no trial but strikes a weak maiden. CITY CIRCLE was scratched Wednesday to be saved for this and has trialed well. NOTHING IN BETWEEN found the front in her trial and dominated. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – WISE MONKEY WIN Race 2 OLGA LOUISA could not have been more impressive in her recent trial. Both trials before her debut run were also quality. She likely positions up outside the lead and controls from there. SPORTY SPICE has easily trialed well enough to open favourite on debut and win. TIME TO TRADE trials like Tarzan and races like Jane. Jumps and runs, maybe round a bend will improve him. MISS MANDY has run three equally good races this preparation, keep her safe. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – OLGA LOUISA WIN Race 3 REGENT STAR has been building towards a staying maiden victory all preparation. Mark Wright does a very good job with his team of cheap tried types. Both his in this are by Blackfriars out of quality Durrant race mares who started their career at the State’s premier stable. AXEL ‘R’ EIGHT takes on the older horses and steps to 2000 at only his second career start but looks a grinding type. DIAMONDANNIVERSARY should have no excuse from the draw. SPIRITED SNITZEL has gone within a half length at her last two. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – REGENT STAR WIN Race 4 TRAMONTANE was well supported in early markets on debut after an impressive trial when untested. Missed the kick, ended up in a horror position in running and never fired a shot. Blinkers on, Pike on. Give him another crack. LEADING MAN has been modest at two starts down the 1000m straight. Big improver round the bend. THREE OH THREE will be a huge price but both runs this preparation have been better than reads on paper. COOL SERENITY resumed impressively. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – TRAMONTANE WIN Race 5 HONGLONG has been riddled with horror draws all preparation but at her best she is capable of breaking her maiden here in an evenly graded affair. BRUNY ISLAND looks as though he can clear these and find the fence. Quite often at Northam there is a hot lane down the middle of the track so if the leaders are battling against the fence be cautious. GEOGRAPHE BAY doesn’t seem to know how to win and Pateman will need to lift him. MAGIC EMPIRE looks like he will stay in the future. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – HONGLONG EACHWAY Race 6 PIXATED looks a brilliant opportunity for newly fledged 4kg apprentice Beaux Djokovic-Edwards. If she can clear them and find the front then expect her to be hard to run down. COLHOUN bolted in down the straight last start. This is not a strong class1 and he can easily make it two in a row. DEMTIMES ran a moderate race first-up, drawn much better here he can box seat. MORE BXAAR looks like she will appreciate drier conditions and shades go on. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – PIXATED WIN Race 7 DIPLOMAT EXPRESS has really hit a purple patch of form. Kept coming last start in a race which was dominated from on speed. If he can turn within 4 lengths of the leaders and get to the middle of the track can swoop over them. I’M A BLUEBAGGER is a one paced horse who will run 3000 plus. Expect Hall to work his way to the top and let the grey roll. QUEEN BEY looked in for a big preparation when winning first-up, reunites with Pike. Big danger. UNCLE LINO sits leader’s back and get a lovely tow. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – DIPLOMAT EXPRESS WIN Race 8 FIRST GROWTH looks a very progressive miler staying type for Nick Cox. This is a weak Class 1 race which looks no harder than his last start maiden field. Gets back and charges late, Pike in the last. SHORT BLACK ROMAN will open a big price and ran a cracking race first-up. Worth a slot in the quaddie. MONSOON was chasing a long way from home last Wednesday and looked unsuited, forgive. TRIPLE EXPRESS fresh can run a cheeky race at cricket score odds. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 4 – 14 Suggested Bet – FIRST GROWTH WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,7,11 2,5 2,3,5 2,4,7 Market Market
