Deane’s Saturday Caulfield Best Bets Posted on October 13, 2017October 13, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Extra SuperPicks for Caulfield – Races 1 & 2 Race 1 A field full of first starters makes for an interesting challenge, the best of the trial performers may be SACRED SWORD (no.9). SuperPick - Race 1 No. 9 SACRED SWORD - Place Boost Race 2 Very even fillies race with a host of chances. Adelaide filly SPLIT LIP (no.2) is flying and just needs a bit of luck getting through the field and she will run well again. SuperPick - Race 2 No. 2 SPLIT LIP - Place Boost Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 4 NO. 5 ALOFT Talented imported stayer ALOFT looks well placed to cement his place in next month’s Emirates Melbourne Cup with a win in the Herbert Power Stakes (2400m). The Robert Hickmott trained gelding resumed from a spell with a brave win over 2000 metres at Flemington on August 5 before a brave 3rd behind stablemate ALMANDIN in the JRA Trophy (2500m) at Flemington on September 16. The Hickmott stable have won this race in the past two years with AMRALAH in 2015 and ASSIGN last year, and ALOFT looks perfectly placed to complete the hat trick for the stable. SuperPick - RACE 4 NO. 5 ALOFT - Win Boost RACE 6 NO. 5 ALOISIA The best value at the Caulfield meeting is ALOISIA when she runs in the Thousand Guineas (1600m). The Aaron Purcell trained filly resumed from a spell with a luckless 5th behind LEATHER’N’LACE over 1400 metres at Caulfield on September 23. She will be improved by that run, will appreciate stepping up in distance and looks a genuine group one filly in the making. Elite rider Luke Nolen will give the filly every chance from barrier one and ALOISIA will run a bold race at attractive odds. RACE 7 NO. 11 BONNEVAL BONNEVAL has started her spring campaign in stunning form and looks the one to beat again when she runs in the Caulfield Stakes (2000m). The four year old has developed rapidly since her ATC Oaks (2400m) win earlier in the year and proven herself twice at weight for age with wins in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 9 followed by a comprehensive victory in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on October 1. She will only be fitter for those runs and will relish another step up in distance. She is well positioned to win one of the features this spring and this looks another stepping stone for BONNEVAL as she charges through the spring. Bet Now
