Scorchers vs Hurricanes Preview Posted on January 8, 2016January 28, 2016 | Posted by Wayne Clark Sunday 10th January – Blundstone Arena What a dominant win by the Scorchers on Thursday and what a statement to the competition! Yours truly was one of many to question whether the batting could step up if early wickets were to fall but the effort by Bancroft and Agar settled any doubts one might have. I know there will be no Shaun Marsh this week, but you would think the experience of Carberry will be called on and we can remember how well he played late in BBL4. Turner and Willey have had limited time in the middle but both have shown how dangerous they can be, so there must be growing confidence in the batting group as a whole. There has been no such doubt when it comes to the Scorchers bowling and again they performed superbly as a group against the Thunder. Behrendorf again got early wickets, Tye finishing well and it was pleasing to see Hogg get a couple of deserved wickets. Be aware, we may see some changes in who bowls when on Sunday. Opposition sides have opened up with spin against the Hurricanes in the last two games (Stars – Beer/Maxwell; Renegades – Cooper/Doherty) and they have had very poor starts in the 6 over power play (3/21 and 3/20 at completion). So don’t be surprised to see Agar or Turner getting a run early to support Behrendorf or see two spinners open. Even without Bailey, don’t underestimate the Hurricanes as their top six is as good as any in the competition with Dunk, Christian and Sangakara dangerous players. Also Sammy who has been disappointing, will be expected to improve. The bowling has be inconsistent but Tait on his night can be explosive, Boyce has been a wicket-taker and Sammy has more to offer to this side. The importance of winning is obvious to both – a Scorchers win will nearly assure a home final and for the Hurricanes they need a win to stay in finals contention. I’m not getting caught again and I predict the Scorchers all-round strength will win the day.
