Wayne’s Preview – Scorchers v Renegades Posted on December 28, 2016June 7, 2018 | Posted by Wayne Clark Thursday December 29, 2016 A disappointing effort by the Scorchers batsmen on Tuesday night, especially against the spin of the Sixers. Unfortunately it won’t be any easier against the Renegades with Narine, Hogg and even Tom Cooper out to restrict the Scorchers early. Shaun Marsh with one hit under his belt will need to be positive from the start and his brother Mitch needs to be at the crease earlier as he is in good form, plays spin well and can change a game with the bat. Ian Bell has been impressive, but in general the batsmen need to take responsibility in finishing the job off. The Scorchers bowling has been good considering who is missing. Andrew Tye was excellent the other night, but at Etihad the slower bowlers will get their chance. Agar, Turner and even Voges will need to lift. The Renegades batting relies heavily on the top order. Harris looked promising, Finch very dangerous and White, despite his first innings failure will be a prized wicket. Ferguson and Bravo can finish well so early wickets will be the key for the Scorchers. They need a fit Johnson back in the team and their overseas pro in Willey to strike early. If not it is very difficult to see the Scorchers take this one out. The highlight will be Hoggy taking on his old side for the first time. Tactics employed against him will be very interesting.
