Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview

Race 1

VIVALDA stepped out for the first time for new trainer Andrew Inglis a fortnight ago when a narrow second to Dance Version. Considering she was first-up, no trial she should only be fitter and if she can get any luck in the early stages from another tricky draw then she’s the one to beat here second-up. MISS BICKMORE will find this easier than recent provincial maidens and the way that Team Pearce are going when they travel their horses to Kal you’d have to be paying her big respect. BILLY THE BOSS is through the same race as Vivalda and was only just behind her (and ran a slightly quicker L600). Like one so must respect the other. PEANUT BUTTER doesn’t run a mile so coming back in trip with a set of shades on, big improver.

Numbers: 7 – 12 – 3 – 1

Suggested Bet – VIVALDA WIN

Race 2

STYLIN’ is the winner of 5 from 9, including 4 from 5 at the KBRC and resumes here off a 2 month freshen. Earlier in the season she won her way through C1, C2 and 58+ races, culminating in the #100,000 Provincial Championship Final at Belmont. After that she headed into a 70+ for the first time and wasn’t disgraced beaten 2.5L by Prawns Eleven. Back to 58+, drawn to box seat and looks to have a few more gears up her sleeve. ART SESSION came to Kal three starts ago and was bitterly disappointing at $1.55. He’s not an apprentices horse though, so being forgiving. Clearly gets along better with Tash Faithfull than anyone else. LAVISH CHARM is another prolific Kal winner. Won well fresh and then raced below her best the next three. DANCEWITHME appreciated the weight relief last start.

Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 4

Suggested Bet – STYLIN’ WIN

Race 3

ALEBRIJE won a C2 at Kalgoorlie and then headed to Pinjarra to contest a C3 when beaten under 4L by Swansee. That mare has won three of her last four and her only recent defeat was at the hands of highly progressive Peters Investments mare Cinque Stelle – so it’s the strongest form line by a margin. The barrier is the obvious negative but she’s going well. COULDABEENAHANDBAG has finished second at two of her last three and in the most recent it was a narrow defeat to Alebrije. Deserves to win one. WHITE HOT broke her maiden here at Kal three back and now has a set of blinkers added for the first time. Interesting to see where she lands from the wide draw with speed underneath. DANCE VERSION led and won in her maiden and Vivalda may well frank the form in the opener.

Numbers: 2 – 6 – 5 – 4

Suggested Bet – ALEBRIJE EACHWAY

Race 4

CELEBRITY PRINCE has snuck back into a 58+ here. Only 5 starts ago he ran second to Prawns Eleven in a 70+ and it saw him rise to a c74 rater. Since that point he’s headed down to Perth where his runs have been below par, but against superior opposition to what he meets here back on the Goldfields. Only 2 months later he’s back as a c68 with blinkers on. Wouldn’t surprise to see him really improve sharply. SPANGLEDSTAR has just been a different mare in Kalgoorlie. She arrived an 18 start maiden and since that point has had 9 start for 4 wins and 4 minors. She’s showing an incredible turn of foot and can absolutely win again. BONNY ROCK is through the same race and sat wide throughout. DREAMERS NEVER DIE gets some weight relief but has turned into a bit of a tease.

Numbers: 3 – 5 – 4 – 1

Suggested Bet – CELEBRITY PRINCE EACHWAY

Race 5

EIGHTYSEVEN LAD fell in to break his maiden at 1100m and then went to a C1 at Bunbury which contained emerging Saturday type God’s Cross. He took a sit, he ran really well and that has to be lengths superior form to anything that these rivals possess. He heads out to 1400m and may have to do a bit of work from the draw but he’s got most of these covered on raw ability alone. Does seem to float which makes him vulnerable but a few of these don’t really want to win either. ALOTTA FIGHTING has been banging the door down all campaign, it just won’t open for him. Going super but had his chance last start. SIMPLY ROYALTY ran well in a 58+ last start behind Spangledstar / Bonny Rock and co who go around in Race 4. Drops right back into a C1. BUON AMICI is going a lot better than it reads on paper.

Numbers: 1 – 6 – 5 – 11

Suggested Bet – EIGHTYSEVEN LAD WIN

Race 6

SCIENCE DEGREE gets massive weight relief here down to 55kg. Think this is the right kind of set up for him, as one of the very few speed horses in the race to find the top, pinch a few cheap sectionals in the middle stages and then kick hard into the corner in an attempt to pinch it on straightening. TREBLE MAKER had to dig deep against the pattern fresh and then was again up against it in the Kambalda Cup. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK is a 7x Kalgoorlie winner and while he’d probably prefer this over a touch further he’s 7 weeks between runs on the fresh side and drawn to stalk. DEBONNAIRE loves Kalgoorlie and goes really well fresh. If he reproduces his finishing burst of the Esperance Sprint back in March he’ll be charging at them late.

Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 4

Suggested Bet – SCIENCE DEGREE EACHWAY

Race 7

THE JESTER’S SON and MONTY ZOOMER both come through the Kambalda Cup where they ran second and third respectively behind Rainline. They meet again here a fortnight later at 1600 in the Tattersalls Club Cup and thinking that MONTY ZOOMER can turn the tables. He was over a month between runs into that event and should strip fitter here and reunites with Natika Riordan who rides him really well. Great chance to lead and win. THE JESTER’S SON ran a narrow second in last season’s Esperance Cup and showed last start that he’s on track for a tilt at the Coolgardie, Boulder and Kalgoorlie Cups this time around. Either has to charge forward early or hope to find a back to follow. FRIARS LEGACY gets in on the 54kg min and is giving the indication he’ll get some ground. FIVE DOWN turned up last start and bolted in. He is really hit or miss.

Numbers: 3 – 2 – 9 – 7

Suggested Bet – MONTY ZOOMER WIN

Race 8

SAINTY CULLITY took 20 starts to break his maiden and only just got the job done by the narrowest of margins. He then went into his C2 over a month between outings and was jumping out of the ground late as he and Pinkerton charged over the top of rivals. It’s a bit hard to trust form lines when there’s <1L between first and seventh, and with a horse who went around 20-1, but it’s offset by the fact that: A) he’s trained by MR Peter Fernie; and B) he’s ridden by Hottle Nottle. Lets hope he can reproduce. JUST SUBLIME has a set of shades added and was just as good as any of them in the Pinkerton race when held up on straightening. PINKERTON won that race at nearly 100-1. Will she reproduce? SHOOT TO FAME has a bad barrier but she’s fit and she’ll find this easier than her C3 mile at Northam.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 8

Suggested Bet – SAINTY CULLITY EACHWAY
