Waller goes for fourth Caulfield Guineas with Wodeton and Autumn Boy Posted on October 9, 2025October 9, 2025 | Posted by TABtouch Champion trainer Chris Waller is no stranger to Caulfield Guineas glory. With three wins already under his belt – Press Statement (2015), The Autumn Sun (2018), and Private Life (2024) – Waller returns to the stallion-making race this Saturday with two exciting colts: Wodeton and Autumn Boy, both poised to give him a shot at a historic fourth victory. Autumn Boy, drawn perfectly in barrier 1, is a son of The Autumn Sun, Waller’s 2018 Guineas winner. Despite finishing seventh in the Golden Rose, Waller and jockey Damian Lane remain confident the colt will relish the step up to 1600m. The inside draw and proven stamina make Autumn Boy a genuine threat on Saturday. Stablemate Wodeton, drawn in barrier 10, has been a consistent performer this spring. Though he has just one win from eight starts, his Group 1 placings in the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose speak volumes. Waller believes the mile will suit him perfectly, and with James McDonald aboard, Wodeton is expected to be right in the finish. While Waller’s pair share top billing in the market, there is plenty of competition in the field and several other runners are shaping up as serious threats. Most notably, Vinrock and West of Swindon. Group 1 Inglis Sires’ Stakes winner Vinrock has had mixed form this prep but remains a top hope. He’ll need to overcome a wide draw in barrier 14, with Mark Zahra in the saddle. West of Swindon has also drawn the carpark (barrier 16), but fresh off a win in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes, this Ciaron Maher-trained colt is aiming to replicate Griff’s 2023 Guineas double. His front-running style and recent form make him a live chance. There are several value picks that could be dangerous. Another Maher runner, Navy Pilot comes off a strong Sandown win and has drawn ideally. Brutal colt Nepotism won the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in autumn and could surprise, especially if the race is run to suit backmarkers. Romantic Encounter and Planet Red also bring solid form at juicy odds, rounding out a deep and competitive field Run over 1600m, the Caulfield Guineas is one of Australia’s most prestigious races for three-year-olds. Its honour roll includes legends like Tulloch, Redoute’s Choice, and The Autumn Sun. A win here can launch a colt into stud superstardom. With Waller’s proven record and two top chances, all eyes will be on Autumn Boy and Wodeton this Saturday. Can he make it four? Market Market
