Matt Young’s Saturday Northam Preview Posted on September 12, 2025September 12, 2025 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 MAJOR TYPHOON (9) returns and is now with Aiden De Campo, his form last prep was solid for a race of this grade and looks to be very hard to beat in this. PIPERS PARADE (5) was knocked out of the contest last run and was going to play a significant role in the finish, looks a major player in this even from the draw. ALFA JESS (1) returns and has a nice draw, keep safe in terms of novelty contender with NO MESSING ABOUT (3) and SUKHOVEY WINDCHIME (6). Tips: 9 5 1 3 Suggested Bet: MAJOR POCKET (9) to win. Race 2 GREVIS (9) finds a suitable race to show his best, he can watch things unfold early and although he’s not an aggressor in most of the races we’ve seen him in, I believe he can be driven in a positive manner to get the job done. YOUR GRACE (5) is better known for closing speed but drops in grade and has a draw to be driven forward. FOLLOW THEROCKSTAR (4) creates interest on return and can be driven forward, keep safe. ELEGANT EAGLE (8) rises in grade and will be running home strongly but will be harder. SUKHOVEY WINDSTORM (10) is a novelty chance from the draw. Tips: 9 5 8 10 Suggested Bet: GREVIS (9) to win. Race 3 JAMIE KIM (6) will be chips in at the start, he is very quick and if he can cross then he will be the winner in my opinion, but it is a big IF. LOCAL RESIDENT (1) has the lovely draw and is first up for the new stable, Corey Peterson does a good job with his stable and this could be a significant improver. FOLLOW THE MUSIC (9) has caught the eye without much luck in his last two, could be some early speed which will bring him into it. SONIC CHIP (4) and LETS ROCK TONIGHT (5) both going well enough to be in the money, will likely head forward and settle in the front pack. Tips: 6 1 9 4 Suggested Bet: LOCAL RESIDENT (1) each way. Race 4 ONESMARTFELLA (6) looks well placed to run a big race, can watch things unfold early and then be driven like the best horse in the race, could end up in front and will get the job done in this I believe. SISTER CHERIE (8) will be better for the first up effort and expecting her to run a big race. RECOVER LOVER (2) has the speed to lead early and has options from there. BRULEE (9) and BEYOND BLING (10) will both be running on strongly. SHES A MARE (3) also drawn to be close enough and could be dangerous if she is close enough. Tips: 6 8 2 9 Suggested Bet: ONESMARTFELLA (6) to win. Race 5 Open race. MADDY ROCKS (6) should be further improved again and finds another suitable race, she can be versatile and be dangerous. METEOROID (5) has come back well; this does look a little bit more challenging but did get a victory from the breeze last time out. VELVET SHADOW (9) has been racing well and this grade suits, will have to come from well back but does possess a decent turn of foot. BATAVIA STREAMLINE (1) can run into the novelties from the draw and coming into consideration for novelties are HES THUNDER (7), JOLTED CHARM (8) and SECOND AMENDMENT (10). Tips: 6 9 5 1 Suggested Bet: VELVET SHADOW (9) each way. Race 6 BREWERY LANE (9) is ready to win again, he has been in top form in this grade as of late and although I prefer him at a shorter trip, I think he can sit back and swoop over the top of them, should go very close. BOBBY WATERHOUSE (6) was a winner last time out but hasn’t really captured the imagination yet keep safe in his second standing start. LUKES MISTAKE (3) will run a good race at the longer trip. KEPTAIN COURAGEOUS (7) is incapable of running a bad race, chance again. IDEAL SECRET (1) a novelty chance with SIR BELVEDERE (5). Tips: 9 3 7 6 Suggested Bet: BREWERY LANE (9) to win. Race 7 AIR MARSHAL (3) drops in grade and gets into this well, she has been racing against stronger opposition and should’ve toughened her up nicely, expecting a bold performance. GOGGINS (7) has drawn to get a good run, and the last run was solid, will be running on strongly. THE BIG KABOOSH (8) has the high speed to bring him into on return but hasn’t had a trial so might need the run. A DUKE TO BE (9) has the high speed to bring him into the race, will be getting home strongly. DAWSON SHARD (10) won’t be far away, has been consistent but draw hurts. STRAUNYS SISTER (1) needs to lift but has a good draw. FUEGO CRUZADO (2) creates interest, happy to forgive first up and could be a sharp improver in this. Tips: 3 7 9 8 Suggested Bet: AIR MARSHAL (3) to win. Market Market
