Punters Pointers: Sport Edition Posted on February 25, 2025March 13, 2026 | Posted by TABtouch Need some handy hints to get you started? We asked our TABradio Sports expert David Shortte and some of our savvy TABtouch customers to get their pointers for betting on Sport! AFL Pointers from David Shortte Avoid dead rubbers When sides have nothing on the line unusual outcomes regularly occur. When bad teams play each other, bad things happen. Trying to predict which of two sides will prevail in bottom-of-the-table match ups is generally a dart board job. Wait for a more predictable contest to get involved. Stick with what you know. If you only watch Collingwood games you’ll be able to use that depth of Collingwood specific knowledge to better assess the markets on goals, disposals, tackles and more. Shortte’s Favourite Stat Sources: afl.com.au & footywire.com Football Pointers from TABtouch Customer Murray Look out for the potential Premier League shootouts Premier League match days or weekends where there are several games between the top teams and bottom teams. A ‘Table Gap Multi’ is what multis were made for. Better still – combine Premier League and The Championship (the tier below the Premier League) head to heads, or add in Total Goals, or Anytime Goal Scorer bets on the star strikers, to boost the odds. Also: Keep an eye out for the high-attack, low-defence shootouts – particularly for Both Teams to Score markets and for the star strikers to perform. Murray’s Favourite Sources: premierleague.com and fbref.com Basketball Pointers from TABtouch Customer Pete NBA stat-stuffers are built for multis. Combine short-priced player points, assists, threes and rebounds, but watch out for rest days! From game-to-game the best athletes perform more consistently than a whole team. Pete’s Favourite Sources: NBAstuffer.com Cricket Pointers from David Shortte Look for longer trends vs individual games. Betting on a one-off match or innings can be hit-and-miss as your player may cop an unplayable delivery or get a bad decision. When a bet is placed on an entire series or tournament however these abnormalities in performance can be absorbed and – more often than not – the cream rises to the top. Form is real, so follow the trends: Steer clear of the players bereft of confidence and jump all over players who are in the zone. Shortte’s Favourite Stat Sources: Cricinfo.com & the ESPN Cricinfo app. Shortte’s Recent Highlights: 5 from 5 on the 2024/25 Australia v India Series, picking Most Runs and Wickets for both teams along with the Series Score. NFL Pointers from TABtouch Customer Gary Ride out the game day drama with stat-multis on the high performers. Head-to-head results can be unpredictable, however the setup of most high-performing teams rests on a star offence, particularly the QBs. They’ll usually be able to put together enough plays to achieve a multi on low-odds total points, passing yards & TDs, rushing yards & TDs, or receiving yards for a solid payout. Gary’s Favourite Stat Sources: NFL.com NRL Pointers from TABtouch Customer Tim I’ve got a thing for the wing. When a high scoring game is looking likely, I’m always on the favourite, particularly their wingers, to score a try. Look for the rebound Teams that get smashed don’t usually get smashed the week after. Look for them to come up against a team that is acting a little too comfortable. Tim’s Favourite Stat Sources: footystatistics.com Tennis Pointers from TABtouch Customer Phoebe I love a multi on the first couple of rounds in a Grand Slam It’s an obvious one, but the value of stringing together the favourites to make it through the first couple of rounds is a reliable punt. Lesser-known seeds are also worth a solid look against unseeded players. Utilise the total sets or total games lines when 2 unseeded players are up to play. Baseball Pointers from TABtouch Customer Ben Combine favourite-team knowledge with MLB Same Game Multi Following my team daily gives me confidence around which pitchers and hitters are running hot. Same Game Multis are the go here, combining total runs, player hits, steals and total pitcher strikeouts to build multis. Ben’s Favourite Stat Sources: MLB.com (and watching through the App) & baseball-reference.com
