Trent Cooper’s Gloucester Park Preview

Race 1

VANDERBILT (9) was forced to run a quick lead time to find the front before being narrowly beaten by Mister Macedon at his last start. He is drawn poorly here but is versatile and looks a good each way chance. TORPEDO ROCK (7) has been placed in four of his last five starts and should fight out the finish again. CHAMBRAY (1) has a losing sequence of 19 but she is a good frontrunner who can improve sharply from the pole. CHASING HILL (6) trialled fairly for his return and did race in stronger company last time in but looks under the odds in the early market.

Tips: 9 7 1 6

Suggested Bet: VANDERBILT (9) each way.

Race 2

MAGNUS VICTOR (1) has faced the breeze and performed admirably at his last two starts and appeals as the one to beat from the pole. SPYGLASS (2) has impressed in winning his last two starts and is the obvious danger from his nice draw. MISTER MACEDON (6) has faced the breeze and won his last two starts and will make his presence felt again but this is harder. FRANKIE MAJOR (3) goes up in class but should enjoy a nice run just behind the speed and shouldn’t be too far away at good odds.

Tips: 1 2 6 3

Suggested Bet: MAGNUS VICTOR (1) to win.

Race 3

MONTANA DJ (12) raced well at the end of his last campaign and looked sharp in winning a recent Byford trial. He is poorly drawn but so are the other main chances and he should give a great sight first-up. PEACEFUL (9) chased hard when 2nd to Steno in 1.52.6 at her last start and will be hard to beat if she can get to the breeze without doing too much work. JAXON MORGAN (3) will give them something to catch if he can find the front in the early stages. CASTELLA DELLACQUA (8) is first-up and is likely to be driven softly but will be running on if there is a solid tempo.

Tips: 12 9 3 8

Suggested Bet: MONTANA DJ (12) to win.

Race 4

MONTANA GLORY (1) ran a nice 4th at Pinjarra at her last start to continue her good form. This isn’t an easy assignment over the staying trip but she looks the leader and will give them something to catch if she can catch a breather in the middle stages. ROCKANROLLARTIST (11) is in career best form and will be extremely hard to hold out if he lands the one-out one-back position trailing PENNY BLACK (2). That mare will be short in the market and very hard to beat if near her top but she is first-up for two months so monitor the betting. EL CHEMA (9) will need luck from out here first-up but he has a sharp turn of foot and will be charging home if there is a solid tempo.

Tips: 1 11 2 9

Suggested Bet: MONTANA GLORY (1) each way.

Race 5

WATER LOU (1) wasn’t suited first-up but she ran on well to finish a nice 3rd to STENO (2). She may try to hold up at the start or sit on the favourite and will be hard to beat under either scenario. STENO (2) led throughout in 1.52.6 at her last start and will be extremely hard to beat if she finds the front without doing too much work. MIGHTY RONALDO (3) finished 3rd in the WA Pacing Cup at his last start and has the score on the board at this level. He will become a huge winning chance if the mares go too hard in the first 400 metres. TRICKY MIKI (11) is also first-up and can figure with some luck in running.

Tips: 1 2 3 11

Suggested Bet: WATER LOU (1) to win.

Race 6

JUSTCALLMEMIKI (1) has strong New Zealand  and hasdn’t been seen in public before his Australian debut here. I’m going with him purely because Deni Roberts has elected to drive him over his Derby winning stablemate. CHRISTOPHER DANCE (5) was dominant in his first three starts in WA, including that Derby victory, and must be respected. WAVERIDER (3) has gone to another level and is capable of testing the favoured pair but will need a good drive to upset the Bond trio. THENU CAME ALONG (2) is probably as rung below the other trio but has a lethal turn of foot and is capable of causing an upset if the race is run to suit.

Tips: 1 5 3 2

Suggested Bet: JUSTCALLMEMIKI (1) to win.

Race 7

SUNNYS LITTLE ROSE (1) was an unlucky 3rd in the Trotters Cup before doing things wrong at her last start. She gets in extremely well on the handicaps here and is clearly the one to beat if she is on her best behaviour. ALDEBARAN SUNDOWN (10) is back in form and will appreciate the advantage he has over the other backmarkers. PATCHED (12) has finished 1st or 2nd in his last five starts but the 60 metre handicap will test him. CHUMANI (11) won three on end in impressive fashion before taking no part in the Trotters Cup and will make his presence felt if he begins safely.

Tips: 1 10 12 11

Suggested Bet: SUNNYS LITTLE ROSE (1) to win.

Race 8

KINSABI (10) has a losing sequence of 18 but his recent efforts have been full of merit and this is a perfect race for him to bounce back into the winners’ circle. HAVEYOUMETTED (8) is racing consistently and has the versatility to overcome the wide draw. STRIKE MASTER (2) doesn’t win too often and doesn’t have gate speed but he can be in the finish here at each way odds. ACOLTNAMEDSU (3) is limited but he can find the front early and would be a good place chance under that scenario.

Tips: 10 8 2 3

Suggested Bet: KINSABI (10) to win.

Race 9

CAPTAIN STIRLING (2) showed plenty of ability in his 2YO campaign including a close 2nd to BELLY UP (1) in the Westbred Classic when he did have a nice run in transit. He hasn’t trialled but looked like a type that would come back better as a 3YO and he should be in for a good campaign. BELLY UP (1) came from last to win that Westbred Classic and is an obvious danger but he didn’t show a lot of gate speed as a 2YO. SOHO SHAKEDOWN (4) has won four of his five race starts will give them something to catch if he can cross them at the start. HOLD THE AMMO (6) has resumed in top form and can win if he gets the right cart into the race.

Tips: 2 1 4 6

Suggested Bet: CAPTAIN STIRLING (2) to win.

Race 10

ITS MAA TIME (4) won three on end before having everything go wrong here last week. The fact that she is backing up so quickly suggests that she has taken no harm from the run and she is clearly the one to beat. DELULU (7) has returned with two victories including a last start victory over Soho Shakedown and is an obvious danger. BETTAGETONPIP (8) raced extremely consistently in her 2YO campaign but was better suited when she raced up on the speed and this barrier makes it tough first-up. TWILIGHT TANGO (2) will be a good place chance if she can cross the polemarker and sit on one of the fancied runners.

Tips: 4 7 8 2

Suggested Bet: ITS MAA TIME (4) to win.
