Warren Huntly’s Saturday Caulfield Preview Posted on October 20, 2023October 20, 2023 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 KAIZAD can take advantage of an inside draw and quickened nicely to win last time. BRAVE MEAD will strip fitter third up and stuck on bravely after covering ground last start. THE INSTRUCTOR is likely to roll forward from the draw and has ticked the 1400m box now. ROVNO AMBER and REPRISAL both rise in grade from their respective wins but have claims. Selections: 2,3,1,7 Suggested Bet: Kaizad each way Race 2 RIFF ROCKET will be all the rage, he impressed winning last time and gives every impression he’ll cope with 2000m. APULIA was disadvantaged by the race shape behind Riff Rocket and looks suited stepping up in trip. GOLD BULLION got the better of SUNSETS last time and that form ties in with Riff Rocket. SUNSOURCE chased well behind Riff Rocket but has plenty of ground to make up. Selections: 2,3,4,1 Suggested Bet: Riff Rocket to win Race 3 TROPICAL SQUALL is unknown beyond 1600m but she’s already a Group 1 winner and make her own luck. AUTUMN ANGEL chased well against the boys in the Stutt Stakes and the form looks even stronger after last week’s Caulfield Guineas. KONASANA, WINGS OF SONG and GRINZINGER BELLE come through the same race and have claims. Selections: 1,4,8,5 Suggested Bet: Playing multiples around 1,4,8 & 5 Race 4 DARK HALO was well fancied to score on debut and there was plenty to like about his victory. He takes a significant rise in grade but looks progressive. FACILE has always had a wrap on her won in good style first up. TREASURWAY closed off well in a leader dominated race last time and there appears to be more pressure here. ARKANSAW KID pulled up with cardiac arrythmia first up but has jumped out well since. DON CORLEONE may be looking for further but should also appreciate a decent tempo. Selections: 7,8,3,1 Suggested Bet: Dark Halo to win Race 5 LOVELY LOOKIN’ has shown talent and versatility in her career to date and looks capable of measuring up to this stronger company. MOESHA didn’t have the best of luck over the concluding stages at this trip last time. COUER VOLANTE will needs some luck from the draw but overcame difficulties to score over INHIBITIONS in a key form race first up. OZ EMPRESS will make her own luck and has jumped out in typically sharp fashion between runs. Selections: 12,14,3,5 Suggested Bet: Lovely Lookin’ each way Race 6 SPACEWALK resumed with a dominant win in easier company and looks well placed on the minimum weight. GENERAL BEAU will have residual from his last campaign and has jumped out well. He also looks well placed on the fresh side at 1000m. LOFTY STRIKE has the Group 1 form and a great first up record, he’s jumped out in good style to resume. GENERATION will strip fitter third up and had excuses in a hot race last start. Selections: 6,4,1,2 Suggested Bet: Spacewalk to win Same Race Multi: Spacewalk (Top 2) + General Beau (Top 3) Race 7 SKEW WIFF was a late scratching at the barriers recently but has jumped out impressively since. Her Group 1 NZ form is hard to overlook. WROTE TO ARATAKI covered ground and battled on bravely last start and should be at peak fitness now. SHUFFLE DANCER closed off well in the same race and will strip fitter third up. Her stablemate WALTZ ON BY covered ground and stuck on well in that race and will also strip fitter third up. C’EST MAGIQUE is shaping as through 1400m will be ok. Selections: 2,5,4,8 Suggested Bet: Skew Wiff each way Race 8 CLIMBING STAR had no luck in what looked a strong mares race last time. The previous race on the card will provide a guide to that form line. NUNTHORPE is in great form, she will make her own luck and possibly stalk BUFFALO RIVER, who looks the leader and may prove hard to get past on the back up. CAUSE FOR CONCERN chased a smart on last start and should appreciate getting back to 1400m. THE FORTUNE TELLER will strip fitter and appreciate a sold tempo. TIMES SQUARE has jumped out well to resume. Selections: 11,10,3,7 Suggested Bet: Climbing Star each way Race 9 WEST WIND BLOWS was responsible for an outstanding Caulfield Cup trial when working in the run and sticking on bravely in the Turnbull Stakes. He should relish the step up to 2400m and getting back to handicap conditions. SOULCOMBE comes through the same race and also produced a great Caulfield Cup trial, he’ll probably be slowly away but will be charging late. WITHOUT A FIGHT ran well in the Underwood first up, he’s another that will appreciate getting back to handicap conditions. GOLD TRIP won the Turnbull in impressive fashion and is going to well to ignore despite carrying top weight. BREAKUP brings some elite Japanese form which invariably stands up. Selections: 6,8,2,1 Suggested Bet: West Wind Blows each way Feature Race Multi: West Wind Blows to finish top two with Soulcombe and Without a Fight to finish top four Race 10 VIVIANE looks the one to beat again. She’s fit, racing in career best form and looked her usual sharp self in a tick over jumpout between runs. VESPERTINE has jumped out well to resume and will be strong late. WILLINGA BEAST has trialled nicely since a solid first up run and will also be charging late. GHAANATI returned to form first up and will strip fitter. LEMPICKA has returned in great form and the extra 100m should suit now. Selections: 5,3,8,11 Suggested Bet: Viviane to win Market Market
