Warren Huntly’s Wednesday Caulfield Preview Posted on October 17, 2023October 17, 2023 | Posted by Warren Huntly Race 1 AZTEC STATE showed good fight after riding a solid tempo on debut and looks capable of measuring up. ERSA had an easy kill in a modest maiden last time but her previous run was good, when luckless in a much stronger maiden. MOJAVE DESERT has been running well in stronger races and the Griff form reads even better after last Saturday. RIPROAR and SUBRISING are in the mix. Selections: 2,8,4,1 Suggested Bet: Aztec State each way Race 2 STEINEM stuck on ok chasing a track record pace last start and looks suited stepping up to 2000m. GREGOLIMO charged late behind MURAMASA at his Australian debut and both will strip fitter and should appreciate the rise in trip. THE SUMMIT has to prove himself here at 2000m but was never in the right spot last time. FOUJITA SAN and ARRAN BAY are fit, racing well and have claims. Selections: 4,12,11,9 Suggested Bet: Steinem each way Race 3 Obviously plenty to learn with a field of debutants. AARDVARK has looked good at a couple of Flemington jumpouts. COLEMAN has shown an abundance of talent, he can get a bit keen in his jumpouts but has still worked through the line well. FIRST SETTLER has looked sharp in a couple of short course jumpouts at Cranbourne. NEXT PAY RUN, RENEGE ARABIAN SUMMER and SOUTHERN CHARM have shown enough in trials/jumpouts to consider. Selections: 1,4,5,9 Suggested Bet: Happy to look and learn Race 4 INSULATION is racing well and gets right down in the weights after the rise in grade and the claim. LONG ARM hit the line strongly in the Benalla Cup and will relish the step up to 2400m. WAHINE TOA did just enough first up and will strip fitter. PESTO doesn’t win out of turn but will strip fitter third up and suited stepping up in trip. DUKE OF HASTINGS has had a gap between runs but goes well here. Selections: 7,2,5,3 Suggested Bet: Insulation to win Race 5 SHOCK ‘EM OVA rises in grade but looks progressive and had a confidence booster last start. WYCLIF is racing in good form for the new stable and drops in grade from a solid run in the Benalla Cup. TARAMANSOUR has returned in outstanding form, he goes well for Sheridan Clarke and should be even better suited stepping up to 2000m. DAIQUIRI looks the leader and can give a sight. FIRST LIGHT should be able to settle closer from a low draw. Selections: 7,1,2,8 Suggested Bet: Shock ’em Ova to win Race 6 Competitive race and there should be a solid tempo. DANCING ALONE won well down the straight last start and may be able to stalk the speed. LITTLE MISS KUBI didn’t have the best of luck last time and should get clear air from the wide draw. LUNA CAT is fit and in form. LADY DI DI is in the game if she gains a start, as are OUR HEIDI and ORACLE SON. Selections: 2,12,14,17 Suggested Bet: Including 2,12,14,17,9 & 15 in quaddie Race 7 FEARLESS WRITER had the race shape against her when well supported first up, she gives the impression 1440m will be ok and gets blinkers back on. DEEKAY has upside and there was plenty to like about his first up win, when he didn’t get many favours in the run. THE MARG FACTOR can make her own luck and is racing in great form. BELTHIL covered ground first up and ran very well under the circumstances. POLANCO hasn’t won for a while but always runs well in these races. Selections: 12,2,13,6 Suggested Bet: Fearless Writer each way Race 8 SUBSTANTIAL has been given some quiet trials in Sydney but appears to be going well and the form around Antino reads well. WATADEEL hit the line strongly in a key from race last start and should be suited by a solid tempo. FARETTI comes through the same race, he’ll strip fitter third up and will give a sight on speed. DASHING is another to come through that race, he ran well and will no doubt be improved second up. MAOTAI didn’t have much luck at a crucial stage last time and should appreciate the rise in trip. TASMAN PARK is in the game should he gain a start. Selections: 7,14,1,13 Suggested Bet: Substantial each way Market Market
