Deane Lester’s Moonee Valley Best Bets Posted on October 21, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.1 ARKANSAW KID The Inglis Banner (1000m) looks a little thin for winning chances this year and it looks the ideal race for ARKANSAS KID to make a winning debut. The son of Harry Angel has had two recent jumpouts at Flemington and shows speed, strength and versatility which are fine attributes for an early season two year old. Champion rider Damien Oliver rode the Hayes trained colt in his recent jumpout and takes the ride here. He looks the right horse for this race and appeals as one of the best bets of the day. RACE 3 NO.9 GREAT BARRIER REEF GREAT BARRIER REEF is a regally bred colt that is showing good talent and looks a strong winning chance when he contests the Red Anchor Stakes (1200m). The Chris Waller trained galloper showed good fight to win his maiden over 1100 metres at Warwick Farm on September 14. At his last start, the son of I am Invincible ran into trouble but picked himself up to run a solid 5th behind the subsequent Everest winner GIGA KICK in the Danehill Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on October 1. That is a great form reference for this race and GREAT BARRIER REEF looks a terrific each way chance. RACE 9 NO.10 ANAMOE He’s had to wait 365 days for redemption but ANAMOE looks in superb form to win the Cox Plate (2040m). After protesting unsuccessfully when 2nd behind STATE OF REST in last year’s Plate, the son of Street Boss has recorded four group one wins including three consecutive victories at the highest level this campaign, commencing with the Winx Stakes (1600m) before tough wins in the George Main Stakes (1600m) and a last start win in the Might and Power Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 8. He has drawn perfectly for elite rider James McDonald and seems likely to enjoy the right run which gives him every chance to win again. He’s the right horse for the right race and ANAMOE can record his 7th Group one victory. Market Market
