Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 31, 2022August 31, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ANNA’S BOY finished second last start behind Bigdayonit with George Gently in third (goes round Wednesday at Belmont) and Kia Ora Jewel in fourth (subsequent winner). Scratched last Thursday after a minor stable mishap and 7 days later strikes a winnable maiden. The Pearce Brothers have been flying and this looks another great chance of a winner. STORM LORD ran well on debut down the 1000m straight. Think he’ll appreciate a bit of extra ground and a drier track. STOP DREAMING won a recent trial at Lark Hill and was off the track and travelling boldly throughout. QUEEN ALINA ran well first-up and will only improve over further. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ANNA’S BOY WIN RACE 2 MAKIN PROPHETS and SPECIAL SORT are both 3 year olds taking on the older maidens. Going to be a bit of a theme through this preview over the next couple of months while they get such big weight relief. MAKIN’ PROPHETS finished third behind Beneath The Covers and Mr Megsey and SPECIAL SORT finished third behind Sunplay and Special Sort. We’ll know after Wednesday which of these form references is stronger. Don’t think there’s much between them. REEL THEMOFF did a mountain of work before fading last week. MISS INTENTION is a long time maiden but racing well this campaign. Numbers: 13 – 12 – 11 – 8 Suggested Bet – SPECIAL SORT WIN RACE 3 MALKAR PINDARI has looked sharp at trials. Won over 1100 on a Heavy and down the backstraight over 930 at Lark Hill. Looks a ready made race horse and Brock Lewthwaite has been training a stack of winners recently. NOTEWORTHY was attacking the line strongly under her own steam and while 1000m is likely to be on the short side for her she can go well on debut. LACED UP HEELS finished in between Red Hot Goods and Rupert’s Empire in her trial. They’re both nice enough 3 year olds and she looks like she’s got raw talent. DEVINE BELIEF went around single figures in a Gimcrack. Drawn to kick through and lead over the 1000m and could take running down. This could have been a Saturday race. Numbers: 13 – 12 – 14 – 5 Suggested Bet – MALKAR PINDARI EACHWAY RACE 4 FILTHY HABITS was a strong winner of a recent 1000m trial under Holly Watson and on debut strikes an all age 1100m maiden. Think she’ll be fired out to hold a prominent position and should be there for a long way. Luke Fernie had a quiet winter but with drying track conditions expecting his team to improve quickly. DOES HE KNOW has always shown ability at trials. Hasn’t quite put it all together on race day in two outings but has again trialled up well for his return. PARLONS struck a hot race on debut (Rokanori, Penny’s Afield, Serviceman) and had no luck. ELUSIVE ONE has only 53.5kg on her back and can hit the line hard. Numbers: 10 – 9 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet – FILTHY HABITS WIN RACE 5 PLANET CASH is the half-brother of Astro Warrior and looks to have talent. Won both of his recent Lark Hill trials over 950 and 930m. Looks to respond under pressure and looks to have natural gate speed. Can go well on debut. LINDEN LADY caught the eye on debut down the straight at Pinjarra. Recent trial was behind Malkar Pindari who is in Race 3. FIELD OF BATTLE finished fifth on debut in a 3 year old 0MWLY behind Harmika and Otheroneson. Was beaten 7L but had 59kg and those two are Saturday horses (Otherone Son possibly a Carnival type!). Keep safe. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE will work home. Numbers: 10 – 12 – 2 – 13 Suggested Bet – PLANET CASH WIN RACE 6 FOREST WAR ran extremely well last start behind Reign Of Fire in a Westspeed Platinum at Belmont. For a horse who probably doesn’t quite get a strong 1200m he chased particularly hard and Reign Of Fire is a Saturday horse. Beat home Astro Warrior who got a comfortable lead and that’s an indication that he’s ready to win. 1/1 at Northam and 1100m should be about perfect. If they’re running home down the middle he’s hard to hold out. FINAL AUTHORITY may only be an Albany maiden winner but he has always given the indication that he would make a nice horse in time. MEGA REWARD has come back to racing well and he’ll stay out of trouble on speed. BUTTERFLY HOUSE next best. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – FOREST WAR WIN RACE 7 GREEN AND SHADY is double nominated for Wednesday at Belmont and Thursday at Northam. He is drawn better on Thursday and the race on Wednesday only has very moderate speed engaged so he may well end up starting here. Ran a ripper last start in a 60+ Graduation behind Marlize, Power of St George and Arcadia Grace when changing direction a few times in this home straight and this looks winnable. VOGUE’S CHOICE took a long time to wind up fresh giving the indication she’s wanting further this time in. HE’S A LUCKY LAD was run off his legs first-up in a high-speed, high-pressure race. CALL AGAIN an improver rolling forward. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – GREEN AND SHADY WIN RACE 8 KIA ORA JEWEL finally broke through last start in a very weak maiden. Looks like the kind of mare who will only get better and better with racing. This is clearly harder, but she’s come back well. Will sit midfield or worse and wind up into the race. ROYAL GAP fought on well last start. Think he gets across here from the awkward draw. DO IT RIGHT was a tough watch first-up and then defied an extremely aggressive drift second-up ($3.60 to $9). Has clearly come back well. PRINCESS MILI is a maiden in a C1 but she had a few excuses on debut and looks better suited at 1600. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – KIA ORA JEWEL WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,10,12 1,3,4 1,2,3,5 1,2,3,4,5,8 Market Market
