Scott Embry’s Sunday Esperance Preview Posted on December 23, 2021December 23, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AIN’T I A WOMAN had a preparation in the metro/provincial area over spring and wasn’t disgraced in any of her outings and placed at York on two occasions. Lisa Staples has had 17 rides at Esperance this season for 9 winners. 53% strike rate, 131% POT. Simply wild. The way she’s going she’d win on Tucepi. Her booking gives Ain’t I A Woman her best chance to break through. GATE CRACKER had excuses last meeting. Previous form was all very good and was working toward a win. AURAE is Aurae. She ran out of chances 6 months ago. Breaks through eventually (I think?). MARTY’S PARTY wasn’t terrible at his Peter Fernie debut. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – AIN’T I A WOMAN WIN RACE 2 JUST STRIKING wasn’t too bad first-up and was an even better effort second-up. Looks like he’s the most likely horse to give new trainer/rider Col Haddon his first winner. From the draw he can punch up in behind them and he should be going close with even luck. Cutaway gives him the option to wait and get up the inside. BIG FISH had four runs at Esperance last season when going round at $2.25, $4.25, $3.50 and $2.25. Burnt punters in that preparation but showed ability and looked like he would break through on each occasion. First-up, no trial, watch the market. RIP AND SNIP lead nad controlled last start and was unable to hold them off. MINI COAT caught the eye last start for all the wrong reasons. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – JUST STRIKING WIN RACE 3 ALCINA has been a revelation for Joshua Brown. Lisa Staples jumps back on and the last time she rode the mare she won. In her most recent win at Esperance she beat Rebel Yell by a length and only meets her 0.5kg worse at the weights. Had excuses last start and it’s impossible to fault her form. Looks like adding another cheque to the engagement ring fund. PURE MAGNUS is a fresh horse. First-up no trial off 125 days last campaign he won a 58+ at Kalgoorlie with 60kg and then finished third to Little Hercules and Watto’s Fury in a 70+ second-up. If you’re ever going to catch Pure Magnus it’s first-up. REBEL YELL won well last start and should get the run he needs. SHINJU was much better last start. Once Darryn Pateman figures these old horses out he gets the most out of them. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – ALCINA WIN RACE 4 POWERFUL and IRON SHARP are both Darryn Pateman on speed types with 3kg claiming apprentices drawn wide. Going to side with POWERFUL who was excellent last start when finishing third behind Scene To Sin and Looks Like Magic in a C5. Drops back into a C2 and provided Austin Galati can navigate a tricky draw he looks like he’ll be there abouts yet again. IRON SHARP won back to back races at Kalgoorlie when first joining Freddo Brown. Should be a nice pick up and definitely a handy Broome horse next season. THE FINEST is drawn to get the right run. SPIRIT OF PROPHECY is usually ultra-consistent. Kicks through to a great position. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – POWERFUL WIN RACE 5 SCENE TO SIN is going through the grades powerfully and returning a career best figure each and every time she goes to the races. In white hot form and looks extremely hard to beat again. Once these mares find form they hold it and she’s both versatile and tough. Love the way she’s going about it. COLD AS COLD was a super run last start. Can pull one out of the hat from time to time and on his day he’s more than capable of winning in this grade. I AM SPARTACUS was an enormous win fresh. Probably one of the most impressive replay runs of the season. If he reproduces that he’s a legitimate danger. NEUROLOGIC has pace to burn if they elect to use it. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – SCENE TO SIN WIN RACE 6 DEEL RED is simply a different horse in Esperance than what he is in Kalgoorlie. Last preparation he won off 70 days at 1400, then won second-up at 1600, ran second at 2000 third-up, won fourth-up at 2000 and then found himself in the Cup fifth-up. Clearly Helen Harding is following the same program here as he won first-up at 1400m off 76 days this time in. If history repeats, he’ll be hard to beat second-up at a mile. SALVARA has been knocking on the door. She finds a race sooner rather than later. FAIR JUSTICE is really attacking the line. Will get back but does have a big turn of foot. EUROGEM is having her 19th run of the campaign. Has been racing since February and is super consistent. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – DEEL RED WIN RACE 7 CENSURE was the replay watch of the meeting two starts ago behind Born Spicy and was the replay run of the meeting again last start behind Double Spice and Born Spicy. That looks the strongest form reference in the race and provided Kate Witten can just get her to step with them (not brilliantly, just with them) then she’ll be a big chance of getting over the top late. JOYRIZE will be at the other end of the speedmap. Expecting her to come out running and be there at the 100. MIGHTINESS joins a new stable and has reasonable enough metro and provincial class form to his name. ART ADMIRER can put in a run fresh from time to time. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – CENSURE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,5,7,8 1,3,9 1,5,8 4,6 Market Market
