Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on August 5, 2021August 6, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 STAR PRESENT brings intrigue into this Westspeed 1600. Had four starts in Hong Kong and didn’t fire a solitary shot in any of them. Shipped back to Western Australia and hasn’t put a hoof wrong since. Brock Lewthwaite went to Kalgoorlie for an easy kill in a maiden and she followed it up with a dominant C2 win when wide throughout and green as grass. Has a real X-Factor to her racing. BUSTER BASH burst onto the scene last start when allowed to roll by Jett Stanley. Seemed to thrive on the Heavy8 surface and the more it rains the better for Buster Bash. Progressive middle distance type. HIP WIGGLE is the proven commodity in this grade and should enjoy the run of the race. LUKE’S CHOICE is never far from the action. Numbers: 9 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – STAR PRESENT WIN RACE 2 STATE OF POWER gets a 2kg weight swing and a barrier advantage over The Front Bar in her attempt to turn the tables. Dominated in a midweek 1000 beating Via Monte and Wuhan Warrior in style before finding herself in an awkward position in running after missing the kick last start. Ran an honest third behind The Front Bar and He’s A Sizzler and should position up much closer in this. THE FRONT BAR was strong at both ends last start. Rises in weight, drawn awkwardly out in barrier 11 but does look to have some class. STORY BOOK returns to racing off the back of a quiet trial. SIMPLE LOGIC chased hard throughout on debut. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – STATE OF POWER WIN RACE 3 WILCHINO won her maiden at Ascot in extraordinary time when blowing them up mid stages to beat Universal Pleasure in a race time 7.5L faster than average. Backed it up in a Westspeed Platinum 58+ when leading throughout to win over 2.75L faster than average. Was tipped out by Danny Morton and produced first-up no trial down the 1000m straight when nothing at all went right and she pulled up with excuses after finishing a shock last. Back to trial and back to her best last start with another strong on speed performance which smashed the clock. She’s a highly talented mare. EXPRESS TIME looks like stalking her every move and seems to grow a leg off the 7 days. DAISHIO and REQUISTION both sit in behind the speed and will be doing their best late. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – WILCHINO WIN RACE 4 VITAL FLIRT is going from strength to strength and finally starting to do a few things right in her races. In the early days would throw it all away out of the barriers and trail them around running eye catching races and cracking closing sections from the back of the field. Finally start to get away clean(er) and can sit midfield rather than last. This race doesn’t look a whole lot tougher than her most recent and she is a mare on the rise. MR DELEGATOR showed his class at Northam and Kate Southam showed maturity not to fire him up and get involved in the anticipated speed battle. Paid dividends and #kathy gets her chance in town. Can track every move of Nelson’s Flight and is more than capable of winning. NELSON’S FLIGHT gets significant weight on Vital Flirt from their last encounter and has turned back the clock recently. ABERDEEN QUEEN is at an awkward part of her career. Tough to place and can’t draw a gate. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – VITAL FLIRT WIN RACE 5 SILKINIZE only gets 1kg weight swing on Dia De La Raza from last start but importantly has a barrier with which to position up much closer in the run. If he reproduces the same turn of foot and final 600 that saw him get within half a length of Amasenus and a head of Dia De La Raza last start then he can definitely turn the tables. Going well and Kyra Yuill rides him perfectly. DIA DE LA RAZA did it tough last start outside the hot speed set by Olga Louisa. See no reason why he can’t win again. Finds the front here and gets things his own way. STATE ATTORNEY finds a new home with Michael Grantham, a trainer who has shown a talent for improving tried horses. Keep safe on the fresh side. LITTLE FISH is talented enough to cause the upset. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – SILKINIZE WIN RACE 6 GIANT LEAP and NOTORIOUS ONE clash again in a battle of a horse who will do everything right (Giant Leap) and a horse who will do everything wrong (Notorious One). Life is short and every now and then you need to ignore the logical side of the brain whispering ‘Giant Leap, Giant Leap, Giant Leap’ and go with the gut which says that Notorious One is a special animal capable of winning far better races than this. NOTORIOUS ONE was incredible first-up and a horror show second-up. That’s the kind of thing you’ll get following Notorious One and if you’re backing him, you’ll need to be forgiving. GIANT LEAP does everything right, can position up and beat him home last start. MANHATTAN MONEY deserves a crack in town after a strong 70+ Kal win. LIVING THE DREAM will improve with every run. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – NOTORIOUS ONE WIN RACE 7 DARK MISSION has always been a fresh mare, winning first-up in her last two campaigns. If she can reproduce either of those efforts for the new yard then she’ll be more than competitive in this wide open 1200m. If she was wearing Cerise and White rather than LK Fernie’s baby blue she’d likely be half the quote. New environment, first-up, no trial, keep safe at double figures. KAPTAIN KAOS is drawn in the middle of nowhere and will take a serious steer from Laqdar Ramoly but on form lines alone he’s clearly the one to beat. Placed to perfection in a 60+ and he’ll only improve on whatever he does here. Could be in for another big prep. RECHARGER hasn’t drawn a gate all campaign. Has been going super and been doing it tough throughout. HE’S ALL MIGHTY doesn’t rate that well coming out of moderate races at Geraldton but his trial was hard to ignore. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – DARK MISSION EACHWAY RACE 8 TOO CLOSE THE SUN had four runs in Western Australia last season over the Masters Series at Ascot when finishing second to Inspirational Girl (beating home Red Can Man) first-up in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes before winning the Listed Ascot Gold Cup, finishing second at Group 1 level in the Railway Stakes and fourth in the Group 1 Kingston Town at Weight For Age. Proven weight carrier, wet track beast, capable of producing fresh and takes luck out of his racing with a natural on speed pattern. Looks very well suited in this quality handicap as a m101 rater. TRUE ATTRACTION is the unknown element dropping back 700m in 7 days from a lacklustre performance in a staying race on a Heavy10. LAST OF THE LINE is the real deal and personally thought he ran a ripper first-up at 1200. THAT’S FUNNY AZ deserves a crack at this level and has run well in the wet before. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – TOO CLOSE THE SUN WIN RACE 9 CROSSARO and ARAGAIN met two starts ago and it was Pike and Crossaro who got there in the final stride. Crossaro keeps Pike, Aragain loses Parnham, Crossaro gets half a kilo weight swing in his favour and a barrier to blend in midfield and wind up. Looks like he’s getting better and better the further they get into the campaign and see no reason why he can’t win again and is likely to sneak eachway with Tena Koutou in the field. ARAGAIN was the beneficiary of a C.Parnham special last start when ridden with patience in an ugly race. Was pulling away in the final strides with 60kg and has always looked a promising staying mare. LOLLIPOP LANE has two personalities. Either rolls on her own or needs to be niggled at throughout. First-up rolled, second-up niggled. Hard to trust but capable. DARCELE has burst onto the scene in the last month. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 14 – 13 Suggested Bet – CROSSARO EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 3,6 1,2,3,4,5,10,11,13 1,3,6,9 1,3,4,13,14 Market Market
