Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 9, 2020September 9, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 CHICLETT went under first up at $1.50 and then unsuccessfully protested against the winner Kerman Rock. Kerman Rock came out of that and pushed undefeated filly Chili Is Hot in a 3 year old handicap so the form is strong. Always shown ability and she should prove too classy here with the run under her belt. FIERY BAY put the writing on the wall last time out and should enjoy all the favours from the inside draw. RECITING was backed heavily last time out but didn’t let down as well as expected. TISHYA trialed well for her return to the races. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – CHICLETT WIN Race 2 THE SLUG could not have fallen into a weaker maiden. From the gate he should be able to position up close enough (at least closer than on debut) and he ran well enough against the pattern and the bias to suggest he’ll take beating at his second outing. PRORATED has had a number of trials and the most recent one was quite good. Drawn awkwardly but McGruddy is riding well. TROODLES has done nothing right since coming to WA. If she jumps she’s a chance. LUCIE MANETTE has no weight taking on the older horses and while she’s been beaten margins they’ve been in far tougher races than this. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – THE SLUG WIN Race 3 ANGELIC MISS was an impressive trial winner back at Belmont Park in March which saw her go out on debut as a fairly short priced fav. Couldn’t reel in Blazing Billy or Hip Wiggle but was really impressive in still finishing third. Blinkers on, Chris Parnham on, blog on. NORTHWOOD has been going well since joining Luke Fernie and never gave up the chase after being quickly collared by Startrade. ANNARULE ran out of her skin first-up at a big price. Keep safe. INN SESSION should find open maiden class a lot easier than running around behind Eliminate and Billy Ray. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – ANGELIC MISS WIN Race 4 YELVERTON is still raw and green but looks to have a motor. Ran a bizarre race first-up when leading and fading before coming again on the line behind Kerman Rock and Chiclett, a race which could look strong form after the opener on Thursday. Last start again ran well and from the box seat he looks the testing material. VITAL FLIRT does a lot wrong and consistently misses the kick. She’s got ability and will put it all together one day. GLENAUREEN ran well first-up and was better than it may look on paper. BRAVE CALL can’t buy a gate but is knocking on the door. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – YELVERTON WIN Race 5 BURN ONE DOWN is getting closer and closer and building into the preparation. Is fairly one paced but this is a great opportunity for Madi Derrick to take him straight to the top in a race without a deal of tempo. If she finds the front he’ll take running down. WINNIE’S WINE is sneaking under the radar and like the entire Graeme Ballantyne stable is going well. BRAVE CONTENDER comes back to C1 company and gets weight relief. Worth consideration. RACY AVA caught the eye in the last 50m last week and backs up. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – BURN ONE DOWN WIN Race 6 GLAMOUR PACKED won back to back races (maiden and C1) before running fifth in the Natasha Stakes behind Tuscan Queen, Pambella, Mood Goddess and Cambist. Went into the Oaks as an 80-1 pop and drew a shocking gate. Talented staying mare resuming at 1400m and the trial suggested she’s come back well. Hard to beat and well placed. MISS MARIETTA couldn’t have done any more first-up or second-up and is clearly flying and appreciating the weight relief from Hannah Fitzgerald’s claim. KELLY’S GEM promised to win a race last preparation but was frustrating to follow. VELAGO is the unknown. Which one of his 18 personalities shows up race day? Numbers: 6 – 8 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – GLAMOUR PACKED WIN Race 7 AY TEE EMM has been eye catching at both runs this preparation. First-up was drawn in the river and charged to the line in a strong 60+ graduation. Backed it up with a minor placing to boom mare This’ll Testya. On paper that should be the strongest Graduation form going round and he comes back to the provincials. AMELIA BEDELIA comes up in grade but gets well earnt weight relief, returns to Northam and reunites with Jason Brown. Three big positives for her. JUST A FLUKE is very quick and should find the front again. GET OVER IT hasn’t won for 1000 days but is always catching the eye. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – AY TEE EMM WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4,5,10 2,3,5,6,9 4,6,8 1,6
