Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 11, 2020August 12, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 WARDIAN went close on debut when beaten by All On Black. Was a big query on that as a form reference (disclaimer: disgruntled former owner) but All On Black ran a ripper in a high rating C1 last week. Wardian proved herself in the rain affected going and while she maps rearward meets another very thin and limited maiden field. BARNSLEY BOY comes from the same form race and from the draw should kick through to lead them up. GRANMAGGIE can run some real eye catchers and clearly has ability but her habit of missing the kick makes her hard to trust. DON’T ARGUE BUSTER fought on well last start but everything out of that race has flopped. Numbers: 8 – 2 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – WARDIAN WIN Race 2 GRACIENNE returns to the races without a trial but does have race experience and some of her efforts in her initial preparation were good enough to win this. Finished fifth behind Watch Me Dance, Madam Torio and Agent Kensington on debut then was impressive behind Watch Me Dance, Dom to Shoot and Our Danni at her second outing. Likely opens double figures and is worth a nibble. AIN’T I A WOMAN looks lightning quick. Expecting her to jump and run with the foot down. GUARDED was run off the track last start and first-up was four deep the trip no cover. CAPTAIN SHARMANE can run a cheeky race from the box seat. Numbers: 11 – 12 – 1 – 13 Suggested Bet – GRACIENNE EACHWAY Race 3 DIVINE QUEST can position up from the draw. Four starts ago ran a fast finishing second to Jag The Joker on a Soft7 and two starts ago ran third to Little Flirt again on a heavily rain affected track. Worth forgiving her last start effort when settling back in a race where nothing made an inch of ground. Even C1 where almost all of them have legitimate claims and she is in the mix. BURN ONE DOWN comes from the Durrant yard and I think every man in WA is spruiking that they’re about to explode. SEA SPRING has always run big races on the bog tracks so keep safe on the quick back-up. GOLD JUEL was better than it reads on paper fresh and will open the roughest in the field. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – DIVINE QUEST EACHWAY Race 4 EMPIRE REIGN is an early season 3 year old taking on older horses which is not something we see a lot of in early August but he should simply be far too classy and powerful. Chris Parnham is riding as well as anyone in WA, Danny Morton’s stable is on fire and this gelding was a dominant last start winner when smashing the clock. On a day where there’s realistically no ‘best bet’ we’ve gone the easy way out. Early and late quaddie anchor. COMFORT ME does a bit wrong running around under pressure but has ability. SATURDAY SUN was good last start and is proven in the wet. SIMONELLY did it tough last start and kept coming. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – EMPIRE REIGN WIN Race 5 AMELIA BEDELIA ran well first-up behind Wine Night and Sweetassa when never giving up the chase, second-up was a strong winner in a C3 company against the older horses and then wasn’t disgraced at 1200m behind Dark Mission, Lil Red Bikini, Pletto, Showzali and Put a Spell on You. Every horse in front of her (bar Dark Mission) has won since and she looks suited with a seinor rider on back in trip. EXCELLENT DREAM is a highly talented 4 year old who looks capable of making Saturday grade. Stays in C3 company with the use of the claiming apprentice and is clearly hard to beat. STELLA DOOR is likely to park deep but Madi Derrick gets them home from the carpark. NOBELIUM gave us a run for our money last start and should finish close to them again. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – AMELIA BEDELIA EACHWAY Race 6 STORMY RULER absolutely loves it wet. He is likely to end up in a tough position from the horror draw but by this stage of the day the middle of Belmont Park may well be the place to be and there is almost guaranteed to be a three deep train building from the 600. In-form, consistent and goes around eachway. CONQUERED ZONE comes from the same race at Northam and was held up the entire length of the home straight when well supported in betting. ARAGAIN won well last start in C1 company and the form has really stacked up since. FROSTY BEVERAGE ran well on a Heavy8 at Ascot. Hasn’t fired a shot at the staying trips but worth forgiving. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 12 – 13 Suggested Bet – STORMY RULER EACHWAY Race 7 STEVIE’S WONDER trialed like Winx on a Soft6. Ran well first-up and could find himself in the best part of the track when they’re turning for home. Ran well first-up and should only improve. LOCOMOTIVE is 2 months between runs but back sharply in grade. Worth consideration at a big price. GREAT HEIST won in style first-up and looks to map to get a wonderful midfield run. LITTLE FLIRT was a surprise winner two starts ago on a very chopped up, rain affected track and last start was weaving her way through the field late. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 14 Suggested Bet – STEVIE’S WONDER EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 5 1,2,4,5,6,7,9 1,3,12 1,2,3,4,6,11,12,14 Market Market
