Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 21, 2020July 22, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 GUARDED was huge at his return to racing. Not reflected entirely in the stewards report which will have the standard ‘raced wide throughout’ as Guarded was 4 wide the trip, no cover. He still loomed like he was about to chime in at the top of the straight and did a super job to finish as close as he did. He should only improve here and is draw much more favorably. JANAURA is jump and run and will run her honest race. PANZDOWN had tongues wagging at trials and draws to get every chance, especially with a cutaway in play. PINBALL PLAYER did it tough on debut and now draws the fence. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – GUARDED EACHWAY Race 2 AGENT KENSINGTON was super impressive when finishing fourth first-up in the same race as Guarded behind Continuance, Choice Bid and Born Spicy. This draw looks to suit and considering she was first-up no trial should only improve. Ran the best sections in that race which looks a fairly strong form reference and looks like opening eachway. MADAM TORIO blew them to pieces fresh and then was far from disgraced in a hot Saturday race. If Pateman crosses it could be lights. WUNDERKIND ran well on debut when finding traffic at crucial stages. AMERICAN GRIN needs to stay with the field to be any chance but if he can then he is a definite blow out hope. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – AGENT KENSINGTON EACHWAY Race 3 MOGUL MAGIC went round as a heavily commissioned $2.30 favourite on debut (back in her Simon Miller days) in a race that contained Indian Pacific. His second outing was again in the market when leading them up and fading out completely but behind Holy Ghost, Snippy Miss, Prim and Proper, Endovanera and Amelia Bedelia. Brock Lewthwaite can produce them first-up no trial and purely on speculation siding with her. HIDDEN PLANET comes into this more than a year between runs and off only a 400m jump out but looks to have a motor. LA CHIAVE is drawn sticky but ran well fresh. ENDURING MOMENT gets back but should hit the line. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – MOGUL MAGIC EACHWAY Race 4 FUHRER drops back from a Listed 3 year old race back into a midweeker. Granted it was not a strong edition of the Aquinita Stakes but he still finished within 3.5L of a horse like Marrochino who ran third in the Belmont Classic last weekend. Comes back to a more suitable 1700 and is a proven weight carrier. Should control the speed and again is eachway. LA VINA is a talented filly on trial at the trip. Got things cheap (understatement) last start but still had to fight for the win. BEAT THE BRO lost absolutely no admirers last start and was every bit as good as La Vina. NATIVE CHIMES does no work and waits for the cutaway. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – FUHRER EACHWAY Race 5 OHBEEH was almost a month between his trial and his first-up assignment when having concussion plates added to his race gear, clearly a few minor feet issues being handled in the background. Ran well enough and the decision to go back into a C1 from OMWLY 3 year old racing means that this is a drop in grade. Can lead or breeze and looks hard to beat on paper. BRUTUS MAXIMUS has been away from the races over 600 days and returns to WA. Has a stack of ability but hard to judge where he is at. JEVELLATION ran well two starts ago in a similar race to this. CHIEF ARCHER back in trip and slightly less rain affected surface should help. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – OHBEEH WIN Race 6 COMPLETED was a dominant last start winner and Mitch Pateman’s statistics as a staying rider are incredible. In the last year if you had only backed Mitch on all rides beyond 2000m you would have made 30% profit on investment. They clearly run for him over a trip and Completed is no different. Evenly graded C1 Winter Stayers and he looks as good a chance as any. SMART FASCINATOR was run off her legs two starts ago in a staying maiden and relished the drop back to a mile last start. LIGHT IN THE BLACK beat 5 of these two starts ago on their merits. PEARLS FROM HEAVEN looks suited to the cutaway. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – COMPLETED WIN Race 7 THE LAST BREEZE has been a model of consistency all preparation and now looks like pinching a midweek staying event late in the campaign. Two starts ago had to sustain a run at 1650m in an extremely fast run race which contained Aberdeen Queen and subsequent winner Bold Success. Last time out was far from disgraced when third to Queen Takes King and this looks a similar assignment for him. Eachway all day. DELTA BELLE is the best horse in the race and no reason why she can’t be winning second-up at a staying trip. Hard to hold out. PLEAD THE FIFTH is well placed back in grade and should be just about ready. ABELDANE hard to catch but impossible to rule out. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 12 – 8 Suggested Bet – THE LAST BREEZE EACHWAY Race 8 NOBELIUM is known to put in a shocker from time to time but his peak form is clearly good enough to win this. Obviously needed the run last time out when 3 months between outings but his last campaign contained Saturday placings to Serenity Bay (beating home Media Baron) and Celebrity Queen. Likely to go round at 20-1 and far from impossible. Worth a throw at the stumps. EXCELLENT DREAM is a highly talented 3 year old. Does a lot wrong but allowed to stride out in front he is hard to run down. SEMIGEL didn’t fire a shot first-up but should land in a far better position here. WEAPONSON went into hundreds of blackbooks last week but where does he get to from the horror draw? Numbers: 8 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – NOBELIUM EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2 1,6 3,5 2,3,6,7,8,11 Market Market
