Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on March 8, 2019 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester‘s Preview RACE 2 NO.7 GREYWORM GREYWORM is a progressive type from the Team Hawkes stable that has returned to racing in good form and should prove hard to beat when he contests the Benchmark 84 Handicap (1400m). The four year old has won three of his five starts to date and comes off a luckless last start second behind ROX THE CASTLE over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley on February 8. He is looking for a longer trip now and will relish the spacious Flemington circuit. He drops in weight on his last run and looks a strong winning chance in this race. RACE 5 NO.2 DALASAN The Adelaide based training combination of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas look to have unearthed another promising horse in DALASAN who appeals as a great winning hope when he runs in the VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m). The son of Dalakhani has shown great determination in his two runs to date, the most recent of those was over 1100 metres at Morphettville on February 16. He is ready to step up in distance and gets the services of champion rider Craig Williams. This looks an even field with several prominent chances, however DALASAN looks ready to accept the challenge of stepping up in class and distance to win again. RACE 8 NO.7 AVILIUS Imported stayer AVILIUS has been a revelation since joining the James Cummings stable and can continue on his winning way when he tackles the Australian Cup (2000m). The five year old has won six of his eight starts in Australia including a dominant win in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 23. He is set to peak at his third run back from a spell and will appreciate stepping up in trip. He is already a Flemington winner and only needs reasonably clear running from barrier one and AVILIUS should claim his first Group one victory. Market Market
