Tradesman To Improve Second Up In Asian Beau Stakes Says Harvey Posted on November 3, 2017November 3, 2017 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Co-trainer Todd Harvey is certain Tradesman can improve second-up and be a major player in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday. After an injury interrupted winter campaign, Tradesman made a top return in last Saturday’s weeks Northerly Stakes (1400m), running a close third to Silverstream. “I thought he was very good because of a slowly run tempo,” Harvey said on Tabradio. “Troy (Turner) elected to put him into the race probably sooner because of a lack of pace. “But he found the line and really ran out the race really strong. “Full credit to the horse who ran a really good race. “I think if there is more of a genuine tempo on Saturday we are going to see an even better Tradesman.” Harvey said he was delighted Tradesman had come through his Northerly Stakes run in good order after a long layoff. The Trade Fair gelding had been sidelined since trailing the field behind Rock Magic in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (140m) in June. “He has trained on beautifully since his first-up run and we are really pleased with him,” Harvey said. “His coat has really come on and he is in great condition. “It was great to see him come back and show what he can do. “He is only going to be better with a run under his belt. “He will continue to improve as he goes along his preparation.” Tradesman, a winner of seven races from 19 starts, has drawn barrier six. Troy Turner. Who partnered El Presidente to win the Asian Beau Stakes in 2007, retains the ride. “I think there will be speed from Whispering Brook and Corporate Larrikin,” Harvey said. “We should be able to position up behind them.” Victory in the Asian Beau Stakes will secure Tradesman an automatic place in next month’s Railway Stakes. He competed in last year’s Railway Stakes and proved his measure in elite company when an unlucky fifth to Perth star, Scales Of Justice. “I think we are right up there with the locals,” Harvey said. “I guess it depends who comes from across the east. “But I’m sure he will be competitive.”
