Greg’s Railway Stakes Day Preview Posted on November 18, 2016November 21, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Day 1 of the TABTOUCH MASTERS and hopefully the start of some real exciting and competitive racing. Not the greatest start to the program and the lack of any natural speed is a concern. WHO’S TO BLAME steps up to a suitable trip and hometown hero Damien Oliver takes the ride. Happy to have something small on her at double figure prices. THE FORGOTTEN ONE has hit a rich vein of form. He showed last start he can settle closer and still finish strongly. ALREADY FAMOUS was caught behind a tiring runner last start, losing all momentum. His prior win was dominant. OUR MATE AL has grown a leg since teaming up with Jarrad Noske. The rise from 1400m to 2200m is the query. Numbers – 8 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – WHO’S TO BLAME WIN RACE 2 The speed should be genuine with PRIME WITNESS looking to kick through and hold up with CRANKY DANCER, TOMMY WHO and PIRATE’S FORTUNE also pressing forward. TOMMY WHO produced a dominant fresh win last preparation before failing in town after being well supported in betting. He resumes without a trial and if William Pike can find a spot from his wide gate suspect he goes close. PRIME WITNESS won first-up last campaign in a dominant fashion. She’s trialled well and Jason Brown will be looking to lead and get a couple of cheap sectionals. ROGER THE ROMAN will get off the speed and find the line. SOVEREIGN HALL has raced PRIME WITNESS twice and beaten her twice so he has undeniable claims on his best form. Numbers – 6 – 9 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – TOMMY WHO AND PRIME WITNESS RACE 3 Speed to burn with FURIOUS DAME , DELICATE MISS and CHINETTI ensuring a strong gallop. Really keen on the chances of the classy three-year-old THE RIVER. He ran well first-up over this trip in a feature race at Bunbury with a big weight and then had excuses at his next two starts. Freshened-up, back in trip and with a genuine tempo up front I suspect he’ll be able to rip off a big late sectional and be very hard to hold out. VIKING FORREST is another suited with the drop back in trip. His best wins have been over this trip when ridden off the speed. DELICATE MISS the best of the speed horses. FLYTEGO is another who will get back and rip home. Numbers – 11 – 13 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE RIVER WIN RACE 4 Little speed on paper however expecting either CHASING CHAOS, FATHOMS OF GOLD and CROWN CHOICE to take it up. CRONKITE looks very well placed. He came off a seven week break last start, drew wide, got back and made good late ground. From a better draw expect him to settle much closer to the speed and utilise his good turn of foot to get the better of these. W Pike back on is also a big plus. SASSO’S CIRCUS produced impressive fast finishing display when resuming at Bunbury. The step up in trip suits and with the lack of speed it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him ridden much more positively. CROWN CHOICE can get a soft run from a good draw. FATHOMS OF GOLD can give a sight on the speed. Numbers – 7 – 8 – 12 – 2 Suggested Bet – CRONKITE SAVE SASSO’S CIRCUS RACE 5 CAIPIRINHA will look to completely dictate terms in front with possibly the roughies SLICK MOVER, BELTER and PARIS TEXAN handy. Keen on the chances of both WHERE’S WALLY and CAIPIRINHA with a slight leaning towards WHERE’S WALLY. He appears to have been set for this race and his recent trial win looked very soft. His form around Royal Missile and Bonny Be Good at his last start measures up for a race like this. CAIPIRINHA is much better suited at this trip. She’s clearly the horse to catch. PARIS TEXAN was given no hope in running last start. Douglas Whyte goes on and she can bob up at big prices. SWEET ORA has been up for eternity but continues to race well. Numbers – 1 – 2 – 13 – 7 Suggested Bet – WHERE’S WALLY SAVE CAIPIRINHA SuperPick - Race 5 No. 1 WHERE’S WALLY - Money Back – Run 2nd RACE 6 This looks a fairly tricky race. GREAT SHOT or VENGABUS will lead and potentially roll along a bit. CHOCOLATE HOLIC was reportedly going for a spell after a flat run in the Ascot Gold Cup last week however he backs up and drops back to 1400m. I’ll back in the Williams team to have him right for this assignment as I think at his best he possesses the sharpest turn of foot of this brigade and will be hard to hold out. D Oliver on is also a big plus. SHOWY CHLOE got caught in the wrong spot last week. Prior to that she was caught wide and battled on well. Jarrad Noske goes on. GREAT SHOT has been consistent at this level all campaign but has lacked a turn of foot to post a win. If he’s allowed to roll in front he can give this a shake. UNIVERSAL LAW is back in trip and up in class but he’s always promised to win a nice race in his career. Numbers – 3 – 6 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – CHOCOLATE HOLIC AND SHOWY CHLOE RACE 7 This year’s Guineas should be run at a strong gallop with THE CELT (blinkers on), LUSAHA, WHISPERING BROOK, GEIGER GEM and HUMANITY all capable of leading and rolling along. I suspect the fillies have it on the boys this season and for that reason very keen on the chances of ELLICAZOOM. She was brutal winning the Burgess Queen and then ran a mighty second behind the very smart SAMOVARE in the Champion Fillies last week after meeting bad interference in running. She returned to scale with abrasions and was mildly lame. No doubt that is some concern however she’s a quality filly and Neville Parnham would not be taking her to the races unless he thought she was 100% right and ready to go. She should get the dream tow from a terrific draw and I think she can make amends for last week’s defeat. HUMANITY is the pick of the boys for me. Loved the way he’s quickly progressed the grades to run a narrow second in the Fairetha Stakes at only his fourth start. The mile suits and Hugh Bowman on is a massive positive. GEIGER GEM steps up sharply in grade however his last start win was effortless and he appears a horse on the up. SAUL’S SPECIAL has the form on the board however he hasn’t been dealt any favours with his draw. Numbers – 16 – 10 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – ELLICAZOOM AND HUMANITY RACE 8 This looks a very open running of the $1,000,000 JAMES BOAG’S PREMIUM RAILWAY STAKES. Hard to really put a finger on the speed however expecting the likes of PORNICHET, GOOD PROJECT, MACKINTOSH, IDEAL IMAGE and SCALES OF JUSTICE to press forward. Last year’s winners GOOD PROJECT only rises 2kg from that victory. He’s tracking along nicely this campaign including an unlucky run in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes at Flemington. Gate 6 (if the emergencies come out) is ideal as Hugh Bowman can lead or box seat. The stable mate MACKINTOSH has the right form lines including a close up third in the Epsom and just missing the placings in the Cantala. Oliver on and he looks thrown in at 54kg. HE OR SHE comes back to Perth after an arduous Melbourne Spring campaign. The wet track probably didn’t suit him at the Valley. If he finds his best weight for age form he gives this a real shake. PERFECT REFLECTION the best of the local chances. Numbers – 5 – 7 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – GOOD PROJECT WIN RACE 9 What a terrific finish to the program. The speed should be genuine with DISTANT MEMORY or SHE RULES ALL taking it up then METEROID and SECRET NOVA handy. JESTAJINGLE returned from a let-up with an effortless win in midweek grade. This is a big step up but is was a soft a victory you’ll see. Suspect she’s ready to run a super race at this level. COSMIC STORM looked really sharp in her last trial win. She’ll get back and motor home. SECRET NOVA should get a lovely sit behind the speed and does race well fresh. LET IT SLIP was scratched last week to be saved for this race. She’ll be afforded all the favours in running and allowed to zip home late. Numbers – 15 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – JESTAJINGLE SAVE COSMIC STORM Bet Now
