Clint’s A-League Grand Final Prediction

Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers

Sunday May 1, 2pm, Adelaide Oval

Adelaide United powered to the A-League’s decider with a 4-1 thrashing of Melbourne City. Goalless at the break, United’s in-form hitman Bruce Djite sent the Reds on their way with a brace just after half-time before Dylan McGowan and Pablo Sanchez ensured the Championship decider will be played in Adelaide for the first time in the 11-year history of the the A-League with match-sealing goals in the dying stages.

Western Sydney Wanderers secured their passage to the grand final after they defeated Brisbane Roar in an epic nine-goal thriller. In one of the best games in A-League history, Western Sydney became the first team in A-League – or any Australian national league – history to win a match after trailing by three goals.

The Roar raced to a 3-0 lead after 23 minutes, but the Wanderers wildly swung the match their way when Romeo Castelen netted a hat-trick and Brendon Santalab scored to give them a 4-3 lead. Brisbane striker  Jamie MacLaren made it 4-4 with 81st minute to send the match into extra time. Dario Vidosic won it for the Wanderers in the 102nd minute when he tapped home after being left unmarked on the front post.

Prediction

There will be a first time champion at the end of this clash with both clubs having already tasted defeat in two grand finals. Overall, Adelaide will become the A-League champion. The Reds have an exceptional mixture of solidity in defence, will match up to any opponent in midfield and an array of playmakers who move the ball with precision to create chances. Take Adelaide at $2.30 to win it in normal time.
